Hailing from the progressive house hotbed of Argentina, Juan Sapia has enjoyed a steady rise since first emerging in 2017. As a favourite of progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, the Buenos Aires resident has compiled an impressive resume, landing releases on top tier imprints such as Clubsonica, EDGE, Mango Alley, Sudbeat and The Soundgarden. Or Two Strangers has also been a landing spot for Juan, having contributed four original productions across three releases since making his label debut in 2019 with ‘Magic Moon’. With 2024 already yielding successful projects for Genesis Music and Proportion, Juan now returns to Or Two Strangers with a four-track showcase entitled ‘A Small Kind Of Revival’. The title track gets the release underway and sits as one of Juan’s most emotional yet club-effective productions to date. Punchy kick drums and tight contoured grooves set the foundation for a narrative of pulsating rhythms, clustered claps and timely effects. Hopeful pads emerge across the first act, creating an emotive canopy of sound for a big, bold and undeniably poignant lead melody, one which may remind many of Sasha’s golden years. Percolating and evolving across the main break, tension and emotion only elevate further, before eventually melting to a quiet calm and suitably stripped back finale. Beneath the epic qualities of ‘A Small Kind Of Revival’ lies the equally impressive vibes of ‘Dragon Fly’. Opting for a deeper yet groovy approach, Juan flexes his melody crafting prowess once again, as heartfelt top lines descend over warm contoured grooves and a mature no frills percussive complement, for what results in a perfect morning record. Selection three ‘Greatest Gift’ marks the EP’s halfway point and pushes forward with a similarly deep and engaging quality. Finding a nice balance between progressive and organic house, it’s a marriage of mediterranean motifs and soulful vocal phrasing which carries the journey to a celestial sounding break and rejuvenating conclusion. The release concludes with the dreamy percussive qualities of ‘Right Love’. The Argentine crafts a clever coax of warm key changing grooves, drifting textures and ethereal melodies for a vibe that is equal parts serene and uplifting. Tension and emotion are at a premium across the main break, as modulation peaks in trance-inspired fashion to round out the EP on a grandiose note.
