Presenting their final release of the year, Musique de Lune welcomes Juan Deminicis to the label for his debut EP. As a favourite of progressive music's top tastemakers in Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J, the Argentinean artist has released on some of the genre's finest imprints over the course of his now fifteen year career. Hoomidas, Lost & Found, Replug, Souksonic and Sudbeat Music have all been regular landing spots for the talented Buenos Aires resident. Also a highly regarded DJ, Juan has programmed music for some of his country's trendiest venues, in turn sharing the stage with 16 Bit Lolitas, D-Nox, Guy J, Guy Mantzur, Jody Wisternoff and Roy Rosenfeld. With a year that has already yielded releases via Clubsonica, Mango Alley and Proton Music, Juan now steps up to Musique de Lune with a much anticipated five track showcase entitled 'Illusions'.

Beginning with 'Holbox Sunsets' Juan finds a great balance between progressive and organic house. Warm and inviting throughout, it's hopeful monochrome is difficult to resist, as fluttery melodic clusters blanket layers of effervescent percussion and funked up grooves. A youthful topline is ultimately what makes this such a charming creation, carrying the piece through a brief but sparkling interlude and onwards to an understated finale. Meanwhile, 'Dualism' goes down as perhaps the toughest and most direct dancefloor piece on the EP. Already favoured by Eelke Kleijn, Ezequiel Arias, Makebo, Sasha and more, its buoyant groove and hook heavy rhythms are timeless in delivery and precise in execution. The Guy Mantzur favourite 'Layers' follows and lands with a resounding thump, as soft siren-like wails, percolating arps and a brilliant array of percussion sets the course for aural enlightenment. A calming break sits at the heart of the journey, flowing through emotive phrasing while allowing the beats to gather for a smooth and exhilarating finale.

Perhaps the most ominous piece on the collection would be selection four 'Diamond Hands'. Prophetic tension filled tones set the mood here, icy in character and the perfect prelude for acid-like lines and cleverly manicured percussion to push onwards to an elusive atmospheric finale. The collection concludes with the title selection 'Illusions' which once again finds Juan operating at a creative peak. Next to 'Dualism' it is perhaps the most direct dance floor excursion, with its fully charged groove and mind bending effects setting the course for tastefully meandering sonics and a colourful melodic finale. Heady and poignant in equal measure, it rounds out what would have to be one of the year's most charismatic releases, a five-track sound-story where Juan Deminicis proves he is still one of Argentina’s most fascinating musical mavericks. Highly recommended.
