Jiminy Hop – In the Right Place at the Right Time [Balkan Connection]

Jiminy Hop prepares a new single for Balkan Connection alongside remixes from Julian Nates and Dabeat. The Russian artist is making his fifth appearance on the Serbian imprint which follows a remix on Stellar Fountain to begin the year. It's been over six months since Jiminy's last original project so his latest 'In the Right Place at the Right Time' arrives at a most apt moment.

Known for his clean, melodic sound, Jiminy ventures into a vocal led track on 'In the Right Place at the Right Time'. It's tight yet flowing framework is immediately appealing, hugely emotive with classic chord changes and breezy overlays. Then comes an indie-esque vocal which is quite unique, not something you might expect for a track of this nature. It works surprisingly well, a touch under the surface yet still carrying a smooth emotive quality. Lovely work from Jiminy.

Two of the progressive scenes top artists get the call from Balkan Connection here beginning with Julian Nates. The Cordoba resident has been on top form in 2019 with an amazing string of releases for Or Two Strangers, Soundteller Records and Massive Harmony Records. Here he puts more of a pure progressive spin on the track all while incorporating the vocals very well. The break is hugely emotive as effervescent electronics and those glacial wails converge for uniquely blissful moments which perfectly precede a rhythmic finale.

Rounding out the release is another one of this years favourites Dabeat. The Colombian artist and B4U Records label boss has also had an impressive run, highlighted by releases on Nick Warren's The Soundgarden and Proton Music. Here he delivers another brilliant remix, reprocessing the vocals for a moderately robotized vibe while a robust, rolling groove and brilliant tonal themes carry the rhythmic narrative. The break plays nicely, flowing smoothly into the vocal which acts as the emotional peak of the track, before gently shifting energy into a buzzing final act. A superb remix from Dabeat which rounds out a unique release for Balkan Connection. These vocals probably won't be for everyone but i applaud artists for trying something a bit outside the box and this works quite well in an esoteric sense. Highly recommended.
