Jelly For The Babies – New Life / Second Sun (Remix Edition) [Balkan Connection]

The latest release from Balkan Connection finds the label showcasing new interpretations of Jelly For The Babies 'New Life / Second Sun'. Originally released in June of 2018 it found the Serbian artist and One Of A Kind label boss crafting two deep, progressive minded cuts, the latter of which contained a gorgeous vocal. Now stepping up to remake the tracks for 2019 are Gaston Ponte and Felipe Michan.

First up is one of this years brightest stars in the new progressive landscape 'Gaston Ponte'. The Argentinean artist delivers an excellent rendition of 'New Life' which has already been performing well with DJs pre-release. Clocking in at well over eight minutes Gaston brings some buoyant flavour to the mix with lively rhythms and a bouncy groove. The main break however greatly expands the melodic narrative with an expansive stretch of meditative tones and soulful overlays. It’s a colourful yet hypnotic storyboard to get lost in and with a tight and timely drop there’s an added spark to ignite the final act.

Rounding out the release and returning to the label for his second appearance is Felipe Michan. Hailing from Buenos Aires, the Argentinean artist first appeared on the Serbian imprint in April of this year with a remix of 'The Day We Surrender' by fellow countryman Juan Sapia. Now following remixes for The Purr and Stellar Fountain, Felipe returns to Balkan Connection with a superb rendition of 'Second Sun'. It’s driving groove is both smooth and energetic, setting the perfect foundation for a sequence of astral motifs and spaced out designs. Rhythmic hooks further advance the narrative into peak time territory, before two breaks and a second act bridge push the piece into overdrive. A massive interpretation from Felipe and likely one of his most creative remixes to date. It rounds out an excellent remix edition for Balkan Connection which features two of Argentina's future stars. Highly recommended.
