Ivan Sandhas – Wrong Way [Balkan Connection]

Ivan Sandhas makes his Balkan Connection debut this week with ‘Wrong Way’. Born in the progressive house hotbed of Buenos Aires, the Argentinean artist began his career in March of 2017 with a contribution to ICONYC’s ‘Elements Ibiza’ collection. Also owning releases on BCSA, Just Movement and Modern Agenda, Ivan now makes his debut on Balkan Connection alongside remixes from Paul Angelo & Don Argento and Arno & Dirisio.

The title track leads the release off and finds Ivan crafting a melodic progressive number. Perhaps most notable is it’s character heavy low end which flows through a series of emotive chord changes coming out of the break before fading off as punchy kicks, percussive waves and serene atmospheres pave the road home. The companion piece ‘Someone Behind You’ lowers the tempo a touch for a deeper more melodic vibe. Bright and summery, the first act evolves beautifully before shifting energy into a playful break that expands the melodic narrative, before a classy build into the final act.

Both remixers on the project are two of the hottest duos of the moment starting with Paul Angelo & Don Argento. This Cyprus based pair have been gaining legions of fans for their pure progressive sound which sits comfortably between old and new school. Here they add a fuller, groovier vibe to ‘Wrong Way’ which has already earned considerable DJ support. The melodic narrative gets reinvented with subtle arps and timely synth overlays which bring several dynamic moments.

Hailing from Argentina, Arno & Dirisio have been enjoying similar success with a strong run of releases on Hydrogen, Massive Harmony and Soundteller. Now after two appearances on Balkan Connection’s South American division the duo make their debut on parent label with a great remix of ‘Wrong Way’. Smooth and electric in equal measure, it’s an eight minute journey full of crunchy design and soaring synths, the latter of which highlight a goosebump worthy break which sits at the emotional core of the piece. An awesome remix from Arno & Dirisio which rounds out another solid release for Balkan Connection. Don’t miss it.
