I.AM – Falling to Pieces [Astral Records]

Astral Records continues to showcase new and exciting talent by welcoming I.AM to the label for his debut single. Amit Maimon aka I.AM entered the world of melodic house and techno as a DJ first, channeling languages of varied musical landscapes into his sets, and churning them into his own complex rollercoaster of intricate melodic techno. Gigs at some of his country's trendiest venues such as The Maze, have already made I.AM a name to watch as he now makes his production debut with 'Falling To Pieces', alongside remixes from Paul Anthonee, Omar Khalifa & Turako.

I.AM's production debut 'Falling To Pieces' lands with the studio touch of an established veteran, in turn finding a perfect balance between emotive vocal phrasing and club-effective grooves. Cosmic and poignant in equal measure, it's a foundation of punchy kick drums and pulsating bass lines which set the stage for symphonic synth phrasing and heartfelt vocals to steal the air. The break only furthers its dancefloor appeal with a grandiose build and powerful drop driven by heartfelt overlays and further sonic mutations.

The first interpretation of 'Falling To Pieces' is provided by label A&R Paul Anthonee. In addition to being a core part of the Astral family, Paul has achieved global recognition for his far-reaching sound. Tale Of Us, Maceo Plex, Carl Cox, Innellea, Fideles, Kevin De Vries and more have praised his work, while Running Clouds, Steyoyoke, Parquet and UV Noir have been landing spots for his sought-after tracks. In recent years Paul has chosen to primarily focus on Astral as his production home, while also adding Rafael Cerato's Ritual imprint to his resume. Now, following a remix of 'The Arrival' by Far From Home & Retoric to begin the year, Paul returns to Astral with a huge rendition of 'Falling To Pieces'. Opting for a more refined take on the track, the Cyprus resident conveys the mood from the original beautifully, for a slightly less vocally dominant, yet equally emotive and dramatic version that's driven by phasing chord stabs and thunderous grooves, making it perfect for the more astute dancefloors out there.

The release concludes with Omar Khalifa & Turako making their label debut with the second and final interpretation of 'Falling To Pieces'. Upon forming a production partnership in 2023 Omar and Turako have become a duo to watch within the world of melodic house and techno. A well received remix of 'Dive Into Your Fear' Freemann (IT) for Melodic Room would lead to a first EP project for the label to begin 2024. Now, fresh off a contribution to New Tab's popular 'Opera' series, Omar Khalifa & Turako make their Astral debut with a darker rendition of 'Falling To Pieces'. While maintaining the spirit of the original, Omar and Turako aim squarely at a peak hour dancefloor with a sweeping sonic experience all their own, utilizing the vocal sparingly, while adding their own unique array of darker monochromes and trance-inducing synths for an exhilarating experience to round out the release on a high note.
