Gilbert Lezana – Ascension [Soundteller Records]

Gilbert Lezana debuts on Deersky's Soundteller Records with 'Ascension'. The Spanish artist first appeared on the electronic underground in 2018 with releases on Black Dragon Records, Mystic Carousel Records and Astronaut, where he remixed French star Rafael Cerato. Now presenting his first project of 2020, Gilbert lands on Soundteller with his debut artist showcase.

Comprised of two tracks it's the tough, driving sounds of 'Dark Monk' which open the EP. Galloping grooves, tranquil arps and an array of astral synths unite across this seven minute journey. Tense and devilish, it's dark undertone carries into the main break, before melting away into a hopeful lead theme. Surely the emotional heart of the track, it's subtle modulation combined with a wave of white noise sparks a powerful drop and equally large finale.

The title track rounds the release out with a similar and equally stunning sonic profile. Once again it's a bed of punchy beats and rolling bass which anchor piece, while an array of otherworldly designs take centre stage above. Geared for peak time play, the main break brings some hugely dramatic moments with a maze of sonic artefacts and finely tuned percussion rising to a sizzling apex as the beats drop for an exhilarating conclusion. A great Soundteller debut for Gilbert Lezana who has certainly showcased his career best work here. Highly recommended.
