Four Candles – The Interloper [Afterglow]

The resurgence of Afterglow continues as the label enters the spring season by welcoming Four Candles for his debut single. Hailing from the UK, Kris Brown aka Four Candles has been a fixture of the progressive house underground for over two decades. Operating under a variety of alias' across that time, Kris had primarily kept his Four Candles material exclusive to his Keep Thinking imprint where he has appeared eighteen times across the last three calendar years. However, 2022 saw Kris forge a relationship with John Digweed's Bedrock Records beginning his 'Devious' EP which landed in March, a project which would lead to a remix and three-track collaborative EP alongside fellow scene veteran Randall Jones, both of which were released this year via the storied UK imprint. Now, adding Afterglow to his resume, Four Candles debuts on the label with 'The Interloper'.

Much lauded for his timeless groove-centric sounds, Kris continues to explore that narrative on 'The Interloper'. Wrapped within a fluid rhythmic shell are punchy beats, pulsating basslines and a myriad of tantalizing effects. The UK artist's storyboarding takes hold as phasing overlays and clattering percussive arrangements build to a sizzling boil, eventually revealing thought provoking chord changes leading into a break which is equal parts tense and emotive. It's thrilling pulse continues to build across the interlude, as modulation peaks amidst a vortex of percussion and noise for the ultimate dance floor moment. A sure-fire crowd pleaser from Four Candles, which not only makes for a memorable Afterglow debut but continues what promises to be the best year on record for the talented UK artist.
