Following Light – Aurora Polaris [Balkan Connection]

Inmost Records boss Following Light takes his prolific skills to Balkan Connection this week with a new single entitled ‘Aurora Polaris’. The Ukrainian artist is perhaps one of the hardest working figures in the underground with a torrid release schedule and a slew of labels under his command including the aforementioned Inmost and also Aeriform, Absurd State, Lincor and Dog and Man. Now making his return to Balkan Connection Following Light presents his latest single alongside remixes from Nicholas Van Orton and Paul Hamilton.

Following Light presents the tracks across two interpretations the Original and Dub Moon Mix. The former proves to be quite captivating wth it’s pixie-like lead and effervescent percussion. Cool modulation on the low end keeps the groove super interesting and the act to act transitions have both dramatic and emotive moments. The ‘Dub Moon’ Mix meanwhile strips things down a touch and goes a bit less epic with reduced atmosphere all while still retaining the great vibe of the original.

The first interpretation is provided by BCSA label boss and long time Balkan Connection artist Nicholas Van Orton. Known for bringing quality grooves to everything he does the Argentinean artist overhauls ‘Aurora Polaris’ into something much more dance floor friendly. The groove is very much inline with the classic progressive sound being championed by Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Ultimately that’s where the focus stays as well as the melodies are much less distinctive with a bubbly arp sitting at the forefront. Lovely remix from Nicholas.

The release concludes with another Balkan Connection regular Paul Hamilton returning to the label. The Dubai based artist is fresh off two EPs on Armada’s THNK division as well as productions with Jerry Ropero. Paul’s club friendly sound never disappoints and certainly doesn’t here bringing the track to a main room dance floor with ease. Everything from it’s muscular groove to a tight rhythmic core and waves of atmosphere make it a sure fire bomb. A perfect way to round out the release and one that sits nicely in Balkan Connection’s steadfast discography.
