Releases Fernando Olaya – Memories From the Future [Musique de Lune] By Release Promo Posted on 27th April 2024 6 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Musique de Lune continues a strong spring season by welcoming Fernando Olaya to the label for his debut EP. As one of Colombia's most recognized electronic music artists, Fernando Olaya has showcased his music on the genre's top tier imprints such as Mango Alley, Replug, Univack and his own Sonnet Speciale imprint. Also an accomplished DJ, the Zipaquira resident has performed with Dubfire, Paul Van Dyk and Sasha, amongst others. Although primarily known as a progressive house producer across his thirteen year career, Fernando has recently been turning his focus to the organic spectrums of house, where he has enjoyed a renaissance of sorts. Now, following a single for La Mishka to begin the year, Fernando makes his debut on Musique de Lune's flagship imprint with 'Memories From The Future'. Much like many progressive house producers Fernando has enjoyed a successful crossover into organic house of late. The lead selection 'Memories From The Future' showcases that beautifully with a groovy, musical and quite whimsical sounding journey. Mallet-like clusters and plonky melodies make up the primary theme, while a backdrop of warm radiate textures and beautifully manicured drums give it an exotic feel for what should be a daytime dancefloor hit. Selection two 'Utopia' continues with strong musicality and drum work once again, but perhaps with a fuller more groove-centric approach. Played out over seven cruising minutes, this piece excels on it's subtle shifts in percussive cadence and modulation rather than pulling on your heartstrings throughout, a mood which is reserved for the main break, resulting in a Latin-influenced organic cut of the highest order. Already a favourite of Sabo and Sasha is the EP's final selection 'Menguante'. Fernando opts for a cross-cultural vocal and creamy synth mutations to serve as the primary themes, while a robust groove and clattering complement of percussion keeps the focus firmly on the dancefloor. The vocal likely won't be everyone's cup of tea, but for fans and DJs who enjoy this ongoing trend, 'Menguante' is perfect for mid-set play or a late night listening session, and it also rounds out what is an impressive organic three-tracker from one of Colombia's longest running electronic music talents.
