Feri – Amalthea/Adrastea [Stellar Fountain]

0 second read

As the holiday season approaches Stellar Fountain welcomes Feri back to the label for a new EP entitled 'Amalthea/Adrastea'. Born in Turkey and now based in Switzerland, the Stereo Enchained label boss last appeared on the Hungarian imprint in June of this year with the well received ‘Eptameride/Serenity’. Now following a single for Dynamica, Feri returns to Stellar Fountain alongside remixes from Dowden and SNYL.

There has always been something mystical about Feri’s work and it’s this distinct trait which makes Stellar Fountain such an ideal home for the Turkish artist. The lead track ‘Amalthea’ more than fits that ethos with a spiritual cross of progressive house and techno. Quite pacey at 125 bpm, the energy and momentum generated from it’s bulbous low end and frayed percussive flurries is palpable. The break however dials things down nicely with a unique storyboard of vocal choirs and delicate arps, eventually converging as waves of percussive saturate the landscape for a thrilling apex. The companion piece ‘Adrastea’ is equally compelling and from a dramatic perspective even more so perhaps. It’s chugging low end is a bit more rooted in progressive house than ‘Amalthea’ but the primary themes are what make it such a unique creation. Filled with cinematic tension and a devilish flair; it’s dark, brooding and a touch unsettling at points which makes the stripped back payoff incredibly impactful. Two unique and inspired creations from Feri.

The lone interpretation of ‘Amalthea’ is provided by one of Canada’s finest in Dowden. The Toronto resident brings the track a touch closer to a main room dance floor with a fuller, driving groove and a more peak time appeal overall. The contrast between dark tonal themes and a sparkling, cosmic arp makes for a great listen several times over, but it’s the main break which really brings some serious sizzle, with an expertly executed build and fiery apex that is sure to light up your dance floor.

The release concludes with SNYL making his label debut and providing the lone interpretation of ‘Adrastea’. Perhaps better known to long time progressive house fans as Reelaux, the Hungarian artist debuted his SNYL alias late last year with a remix of Kamilo Sanclemente. Now following appearances on Dynamica and Stellar Fountain offshoot Astrowave he rounds 2018 out with a great remix of ‘Adrastea’. Coming from a more classic progressive house sensibility SNYL reshapes the groove into a fuller more driving feel while rhythmic stabs and nasally effects further saturate your senses. The afro drum fills are a nice touch, adding quite a bit of depth to the field while the main break goes from moody to emotive and back with an effortless ease. A quality remix from SNYL and a very well rounded release from Stellar Fountain with both original versions providing a bevy of unique moments an ideas. Highly recommended.
