Etherwave – Pathfinder | Blue Noah [Clubsonica Records]

The latest release from Clubsonica Records welcomes Etherwave to the label for his debut EP. Currently in the early stages of his electronic music journey, a unique amalgamation of progressive house and melodic techno quickly set the UK artist apart. Well received by his contemporaries and tastemakers alike, 2019 was highlighted by releases on RunAfter Records and Extravaganza. Now embarking on the most anticipated project of his young career, Etherwave debuts on Clubsonica with 'Pathfinder | Blue Noah' alongside remixes from DJ Fronter and Paul Angelo and Don Argento.

Beginning with 'Pathfinder' Etherwave crafts a proper slice of astral techno. Sitting at the heart of the piece is a tightly wound groove and a charged rhythmic core. Pensive and intriguing, its arcane nature is inviting as melancholic tones, astral arps and icy overlays make for an incredibly heady journey. The storyboard becomes fully realized during the main break, melting down to a collage of vocal edits and cosmic artifacts, before a wave of white noise sparks a powerful finale. The companion piece 'Blue Noah' follows a similar sonic ethos, making it a perfect complement to its predecessor. Tough beats, electric rhythms and organic drums begin the seven-minute journey. Senses heighten as piercing stabs and elastic-like arps unite across a devilish first act. Percussive flurries and buzzing swells further advance the narrative, flowing effortlessly into a dramatic break. Mysterious and meditative in equal measure, the interlude saturates your senses with a cascading lead motif, running through tasteful modulation, before reaching an exhilarating crescendo.

The first interpretation of 'Pathfinder' is provided by DJ Fronter who makes his label debut. The Colombian artist has been a fixture of his country's electronic underground for well over a decade. An initial love for tribal percussion spawned a unique production sound which incorporated elements of afro house and techno. Fast forward to present day and the Santiago de Cali resident has found a home on some of the industry's most respected and longest standing imprints, most notably Hot Creations, Stereo Productions and Toolroom. Now making his Clubsonica debut, DJ Fronter puts his own unique twist on 'Pathfinder'. Taking a cue from the original, Fronter utilizes the main themes wonderfully over a tech house inspired framework. Exotic drums and timely modulation make for several dynamic moments, ultimately building further during a tension filled break, before getting washed away in favour of a stripped back drop and atmospheric finale.

The second and final interpretation of 'Pathfinder' is provided by Paul Angelo and Don Argento who return to the label for their second appearance. Based in Cyprus, the duo sits as one of progressive music's most formidable production teams, earning the praise of Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while showcasing their music on Beat Boutique, Movement Recordings and Sound Avenue. Having made their label debut in February of last year with a stunning remix of Armandhe's 'While the Wolf's Away', Paul and Don now land back on Clubsonica with an equally inspired take on 'Pathfinder'. Always creative remixers, the duo reinvent the main elements into something decidedly more driving and devilish. Atop a muscular groove and crunchy rhythms comes buzzing synths and hypnotic arps, its unique contrast of grit and shimmer results in a remarkable sonic marriage, one which makes for a hugely energetic yet heady journey, elegantly peaking through a charming break, before an electric final act puts a cap on this dance floor minded gem. A stunning remix from Paul and Don which rounds out a hugely successful Clubsonica debut for Etherwave.
