EMPHI – Pair of Dice [Transensations Records]

Continuing to showcase fresh talent, Transensations welcomes EMPHI to the label for his debut EP. The Swedish artist is a relatively new name in the world of progressive music with his first release landing just 10 months ago. It's been a quick rise however as the Stockholm resident has already notched releases on Yotto's Odd One Out, Balkan Connection and Hoomidaas. Now following a remix for Massive Harmony Records, EMPHI debuts on Transensations with 'Pair of Dice' alongside remixes from Kabi and Lelio Monte.

Title track 'Pair of Dice' comes in backed by a classic rolling groove and driving percussion. It's lively cadence quickly grabs a hold of you, eventually leading to the introduction of hopeful melodic clusters and emerging atmospheres. Emotion continues to rise across the main break as the musicality opens up, taking centrestage before a well timed drum roll sparks a commanding drop. The companion piece 'Spill the Tea' is equally impressive with it's robust low end and buzzing rhythms leading the charge. A touch dreamier from a melodic perspective, it's tranquil overlays delight leading into the break, where further story-boarding offers heartfelt moments as the groove thunders on wards to a thrilling finale.

The lone interpretation of 'Pair of Dice' comes from Kabi who makes his label debut. Much like EMPHI, the Argentinean artist has enjoyed a rapid rise since first appearing 18 months ago. Now boasting a discography with releases on Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank Records, Clubsonica Records, Droid9 and Freegrant Music he has firmly etched his place amongst his countries freshest new talent. Now making his first appearance on Transensations, Kabi dials in a massive rendition of 'Pair of Dice'. A reworked groove adds further swing and bounce while the main melodic elements get teased over the rumbling foundation. The main break proves impactful, keeping the percussion locked while the main melody aptly teases the senses before breaking away into an uplifting finale.

Rounding out the release and providing the lone interpretation of 'Spill the Tea' is Lelio Monte who returns to the label for his second appearance. The Argentinean artist made his first appearance on the Brazilian imprint with a contribution to the label's 'Transenses II' collection in September of 2020. Now forging a stronger bond with the label Lelio returns for his first remix. Leaning closer to progressive techno territory, the Argentine crafts a haunting rendition complete with massive bass lines, tasteful atmospheres and a less distinct take on the main themes. The end result is not only a great complement to the original but a sure fire dance floor bomb. A powerful remix from Lelio capping off a well rounded release for Transensations once again. Highly recommended.
