Emiliano Demarco – Katrien [Soundteller Records]

Emiliano Demarco returns to Deersky’s Soundteller Records for his debut EP entitled ‘Katrien’. The Argentinean artist first appeared on the Polish imprint in November of 2017 with a contribution to the label’s Vibrant Vibeland #4 collection. Also owning releases on Dear Deer and Sound Avenue, Emiliano now returns to Soundteller for his first EP.

Across three tracks it’s the smooth, melodic vibes of ‘Chia’ which get the release under way. The first thing you think when hearing the musicality of the track is how timeless it is. Pleasant and joyous but in an understated, charming way and the spaced out break adds perfectly to the narrative.

The EP shifts gears with ‘Endlessly’ which is a much deeper, dubbier affair. The tempo drops by about 5 bpm with a spacious groove eventually getting rooted with warm, key changing swells. An elegant vocal sample adds mightily to the story, it’s airy resonance is quite lovely and the final act could only be described as late night magic.

The release concludes with the title and showcase piece ‘Katrien’ which comes in as the most playful and dance floor friendly of the three. What immediately grabs you are the big, bulbous bass stabs; ultra round and full of great character, they shape a foundation that’s going to sound amazing in a club or outdoors. The melodic narrative evolves quite nicely, going from simple and hooky to spacey and atmospheric during the break. A gorgeous production from Emiliano which rounds out a stunning debut EP on Soundteller Records. Highly Recommended.
