The latest release from SLC-6 Music finds label boss D.J. MacIntyre back in the spotlight with a brand new single. Hailing from California, the US artist rounded out a successful 2018 with remixes for Michael St. Patrick and Trovarsi. Well travelled as a DJ, the Santa Barbara resident has appeared at some of the world’s most prestigious events, most notably Burning Man and the Lucidity Festival, while also showcasing his borderless programming skills in Moscow, Siberia and all across the United States. Now returning to his home imprint to begin the new year, D.J. MacIntyre presents his latest single ‘Billion Miles Of Space’ alongside remixes from Vlada D’Shake and Trovarsi.

Not only are MacIntyre’s DJ sets borderless in scope but so too are his productions, often incorporating various influences or stylistic blueprints if you will. On ‘Billions Miles Of Space’ we see him with a unique, cross pollinated blend of progressive house and techno. Fluid, percussive and devilishly hypnotic, it’s a piece that moves through a variety of meditative motifs. The drums stand out instantly, organic in nature and undeniably groovy they carry this unique contrast of tranquil themes and retro electronics across the eight minute journey. The main break shifts the narrative further with a distinctive vocal sample and robotic electronics, the latter of which fully saturates your senses before setting up a powerful drop.

The first interpretation of ‘Billion Miles Of Space’ is provided by Vlada D’Shake who is making his label debut here. The Serbian artist has been much loved by the progressive underground in recent years, earning praise from a variety of top tier DJs, including Cid Inc. Although his productions have become increasingly more infrequent his creative prowess has only grown. Known for incorporating unique vocal samples into the majority of his own productions he seems like a great fit for ‘Billion Miles Of Space’ which the results certainly dictate. Vlada opens up the groove considerably for a funky, futuristic jaunt that sits comfortably between progressive and tech house. Neatly snipped elements from the original fire through the framework while timely vocals edits and quirky hooks work rhythmic wonders. Not without emotive moments, the main break does offer hopeful reflection, a mood which breaks the storyboard momentarily before effortlessly segueing into a groovy, spaced out third act.

Rounding out the release and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Billion Miles of Space’ is SLC-6 label artist Trovarsi. Based in Los Angeles, the US producer made her SLC-6 debut in November of last year with the well received ‘Shake’ single. Now getting the new year off to a great start she returns to the US imprint for her first remix. Adding depth and variety to the release Trovarsi’s rough and rugged techno inspired take is a refreshing change of pace. Tense and dramatic throughout, it’s clustered claps, piercing stabs and deliberate cadence are tailor made for a dark dance floor. Clocking in at under six minutes it’s a concise yet intense journey with a calculated built and a chaotic yet controlled apex. A powerful remix from Trovarsi who proves to be an artist to watch as 2019 unfolds. It caps off a well rounded release for SLC-6 with label boss D.J. MacIntyre setting in motion what promises to be a great year for both himself and the label. Highly recommended.
