Moving forward, Cid Inc and Orsen then recorded their first ever joint remix, a striking take on DJ Zombi's 'Octopus', also released under the Replug banner. 2020 once again saw the label showcase release after release of progressive excellence, with several unprecedented artist collaborations, a fresh and constantly evolving visual identity and a long line of Beatport chart dominance. Calling the label elite in the genre would be understatement and it would have to be considered one of the top two destinations for progressive music at this point. Both Cid Inc and Orsen have reserved their original material almost exclusively for the label in recent years, only adding to it's enduring appeal. Appropriately Replug now begins the new year with a collaborative EP from the duo entitled 'Unreleased', showcasing a selection of their unreleased material. Long time fans of Cid Inc may remember some of his earliest productions featuring acid-fuelled narratives, such is the case with 'Ground Control' which finds the Finnish artist operating solo. Tightly constructed; it's distinctive, punchy groove provides the perfect backbone for emerging acid lines and a spoken word vocal which appears at timely moments. Emotion heightens during the main break as modulation rises and the liquid-like line opens further, eventually giving way to a canopy of hopeful overlays way and a huge finale. Up next is 'A Blessing In Disguise' which is the release's lone collaboration. A more than worthy follow-up to the duo's '10', it's percussive cadence hits you first. Crisp, detailed and fluid, it's this maze of precise craftsmanship which ultimately carries the narrative early on, before crunchy chord stabs shift energy into an anthemic break. Large in scope, the centrepiece's melodic swells are both uniquely designed and hugely emotive, rising to goosebump worthy heights as the groove drops for a rhythmic finale. The release's final selection 'Continuum' finds Orsen operating in solo capacity for the first time since his 2019 Replug vehicle 'Falling In'. The most distinctive track on the release perhaps, it's crunchy arps and peculiar stabs not only provide a unique sonic marriage, but a peak time sensibility that resonates really well. It's elusive elements don't end there with an icy melodic lead descending over the break, perfectly foreshadowing a fiery conclusion. A suitably massive end to an excellent release from Cid Inc and Orsen, getting 2021 off to a great start for the Replug camp. Highly recommended.
