Caballero ft. María (MX) – Fighting Back [Xtao Xounds]

Following on from the success of their first release, Xtao Xounds unveils their second offering, once again coming courtesy of label boss Caballero. Hailing from Mexico, Hugo Caballero, aka DJ Gandulk and Caballero has been a fixture of his country's electronic music culture for the better part of two decades. With a history rich in music, Caballero began his journey playing guitar and performing in rock and alternative bands, before eventually discovering a new passion in electronic music. First emerging in 2009 with ‘Swing’, a two-track showcase recorded alongside frequent collaborator 2up, and released via Iboga Mexico, Caballero became a rising artist to watch. Subsequent projects via Digital Structures, Sounds of Earth, Steyoyoke and Undergroove Music, amongst others, were received with praise from the underground’s premiere tastemakers. Also an accomplished DJ, Caballero has been a primary figure within Mexico’s burgeoning nightlife. With a unique and cohesive blend of styles, the Mexico City resident can often be found blurring the lines between progressive and melodic house, while showcasing his impeccable programming skills at some of the country’s trendiest venues. 2025 would mark a pivotal moment in Caballero’s career, with the Mexican artist launching his Xtao Xounds imprint with ‘Take Me Home’, a single from himself and vocalist Maria, backed by remixes from Colombian progressive house star Juan Pablo Torrez. Now, presenting their second and much-anticipated offering, Xtao Xounds opens the summer season with ‘Fighting’, alongside a remix from Kamilo Sanclemente.

Instantly seductive, the downtempo sounds of the Orignal Mix lead the release off. Once again the creative synergy between Caballero and Maria shines brightly, as an amalgamation of soulful vocal phrasing and wispy effects descends upon funky basslines and panoramic chord stabs for a laid-back thought provoking gem.

The release concludes with Kamilo Sanclemente making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Fighting’. Long regarded as one of his country's premiere progressive house artists, the Cali resident has notched a litany of successes over the last decade. Kamilo has earned the praise of electronic tastemakers Guy Mantzur, Hernan Cattaneo, Lee Burridge and Nick Warren, while showcasing his music via All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep, Sudbeat, The Soundgarden, Warung Recordings and more. Long regarded as one of the most consistent and prolific progressive house producers in recent memory, Kamilo continues building his catalog, making his Xtao Xounds debut with a colourful rendition of ‘Fighting’. Taking a straight forward dancefloor approach, Kamilo constructs a groovy rhythmic core, complemented with punchy beats, percolating synth lines and reprocessed sonics. Sitting at the heart of the journey is Maria’s soulful vocal, tactfully building anticipation and emotion through heartfelt phrasing, before getting washed away in a glorious melodic lead to further uplift your dancefloor.
