Balkan Connection rounds out the month of October by welcoming Borshulyak to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Russia, Borshulyak first emerged just about a decade ago with releases courtesy of Evoked Records and Omnivore. His progressive sound quickly caught the attention of the genre's tastemakers, eventually leading to projects for Ewan Rill's Sever Records, Proton Limited and Smart Phenomena Limited. Now adding the mighty Balkan Connection to his resume, Borshulyak debuts on the Serbian powerhouse with 'Transparent' alongside remixes from Ewan Rill and Mariner + Domingo.

The title selection aims squarely at a peaktime dancefloor with it's tough beats and buzzing synths. A DJ friendly intro sets the stage for layers of dynamic percussion and rolling rhythmic themes. This sturdy framework proves to be the perfect backbone for emotive chord changes and a gorgeous piano-infused break, the latter of which foreshadows a nostalgic finale perfectly. The companion piece 'Pure View' follows suit with a similarly classic sound, as creamy pianos blanket clattering percussive arrangements and warm, breezy overlays for a concise and reflective five minute journey.

Continuing to deliver fresh music across 2021, Ewan Rill returns to Balkan Connection and provides the lone interpretation of 'Transparent Clouds'. Famed for his releases via Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music, Nick Warren's The Soundgarden and Balance Music, the Russian artist has always called Balkan Connection home, dating back to his first ever release in 2011. Now making his 125th appearance on the label, Ewan dials in a heady interpretation of Borshulyak's 'Transparent'. As usual Ewan radically overhauls the main themes into a completely new and inspired creation. Equally at home on a peaktime dance floor, Ewan's stomping beats, ethereal synth phrasing and blustery overlays make for a mix that is equal parts groovy and emotive.

Also returning to the label are Marnier + Domingo who provide the lone interpretation of 'Pure View'. The US duo are in the midst of their most prolific and successful year to date. Support from Sebastien Leger and Tim Green coupled with releases via Proton Music, RYNTH and Sound Avenue have built an ever growing fan base. Although firmly rooted in organic house, their music crosses over into progressive and deep house territory with relative ease. Here they take the musical themes from 'Pure View' and re-imagine them over a more playful and buoyant framework, making for a perfect complement to the nostalgic sounding original. Fluttery arps, exotic drum arrangements and impassioned vocal phrasing marry beautifully for a balmy Mediterranean journey that should deliver some joyous dance floor moments. A gorgeous rendition from Mariner + Domingo once again, rounding out an excellent Balkan Connection debut for Borshulyak. Highly recommended.
