Beat Maniacs – Manchurian Diskosex [One Of A Kind]

Beat Maniacs make their debut on Jelly For The Babies One Of A Kind imprint this week with ‘Manchurian Diskosex’. The Serbian duo have found a home on Proton’s Particles this year, delivering a two track EP in March which was followed by a remix of Zankee Gulati in May. Their One Of A Kind debut is perhaps long overdue and includes three excellent remixes from Nishan Lee, Sam Scheme and Alberto Blanco.

Hailing from Belgrade, Petar Bogojevic and Nikola Radivojevic aka Beat Maniacs have been blessing the progressive music scene with fresh creations for nearly a decade. The diversity in their work continues to be a strong suit and it’s prevalent once again on ‘Manchurian Diskosex’. The mid-tempo ten minute journey is highlighted by ghostly vocal elements, dramatic shades and a buzzing line which delivers moments of tension and exhilaration.

It’s not often an artist from the progressive underground gets an opportunity to remix a track like this and all three have taken it somewhere quite interesting. The perpetually hot Nishan Lee is first and he ups the tempo for a deep progressive house beauty. The main themes resonate well, from the vocal elements to buzzy electronics. What’s most captivating though are the ethereal synth elements which intermingle high above the pulsating framework, taking the piece somewhere both dramatic and emotive. Russian artist Sam Scheme has also been turning out great music this year and he continues on form with a dark, chugging rework. It’s a bit more meaty and menacing than Nishan’s with a tension filled arp adding much of the drama over it’s near eight minute journey. Rounding the release out is Alberto Blanco who opts for a deeper more atmospheric take. Clocking in at 116 BPM it has tremendous flow as waves of atmosphere swirl for a vortex of sound and colour that ultimately peaks during an astral break. A classy remix from Alberto which rounds out a very well put together release from Jelly For The Babies and One Of A Kind. Highly recommended.
