Around Us – Breathe [Movement Limited]

Continuing to add new talent to their roster, Tash's Movement Limited welcomes Around Us to the label for their debut EP. Based in Amsterdam, Around Us first emerged in 2018, quickly establishing themselves as a rising act with releases via Balkan Connection's BC2, LuPS Records and Magnitude Recordings. World class DJ and progressive music tastemaker Hernan Cattaneo was the first to chime in with support. Showcasing one of the duo's early productions 'Sleeping Blue' as part of his hugely popular Resident podcast. Fast forward five years and Around Us is well established in the progressive house underground, with an impressive resume highlighted by appearances on 3rd Avenue, Clubsonica and Mango Alley. Now, following the release of their critically acclaimed debut album for Paul Hazendonk's Manual Music, Around Us debuts on Movement Limited with 'Breathe'.

Around Us continues to explore timeless progressive narratives on the lead selection 'Breathe'. Rhythmically charged, its smooth pulsating cadence, soulful vocal wails and mesmerizing percussion set the piece on a course for hypnotic enlightenment. Wavy arps marry perfectly with rolling grooves across the first movement, before a nostalgic lead theme highlights the main break, nicely setting up a wonderfully cosmic finale.

The second selection 'Bartok' proves to be a worthy complement with its deep, driving energy. Punchy beats power the groove, while flickering percussion, vocal stabs and plonky tones add rhythm, space and intrigue. Continuing to evolve as the main break commences; broken beats and operatic vocal phrases create a unique emotional response, before eventually melting down into a thumping drop and spirited melodic conclusion.

The third and final selection 'Youth' continues the deeper progressive minded flow with a gorgeous hypnotic narrative. A rolling low end sets the track in motion as clustered sonics, icy sweeps and buoyant rhythms move through the framework as the main break approaches. Trippy and mysterious, the interlude sits at the core of the storyboard, with its timeless appeal eventually revealing a delicate melodic theme, eleganting rising towards a tasteful crescendo and smooth emotive finale to round out the EP in style.
