Arbey Gonzalez – Aleana [Nature Rec]

Nature Rec opens the summer season by welcoming Arbey Gonzalez to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Colombia, Arbey Gonzalez first emerged just two years ago on the strength of releases via Balkan Connection, Deepwibe Underground, Soundteller Records, The Purr and more. The Cali resident would quickly establish himself amongst Colombia's strong progressive scene and become a sought after remixer as a result. Also finding a home on Nature Rec, Arbey would make his label debut earlier this year with a remix of 'Meraki' by Valeria Petz. Now, in a year that already seen Arbey debut on Perfecto Black, he makes a welcome return to Nature with 'Aleana', alongside remixes from Giovanny Aparicio and Leo Perez.

Arbey has always found a nice balance between progressive and organic house, and the three selections here do so once again, beginning with the title track 'Aleana'. A sturdy organic foundation provides the dance floor framework for melancholic melodies and tasteful effects to converge across a fluid first movement, perfectly setting up an emotive break where placid pads and hypnagogic themes perfectly transfer energy into an uplifting finale. Selection two 'Piedad' follows in impressive fashion with a fluttery arpeggiator that's nicely complemented with hopeful pads and carefully placed piano stabs. A glowing interlude sits at the core of piece, making for a hugely memorable moment, one which smoothly segues into a gorgeous key changing finale complete with heavenly vocal gates. The final Original 'Yeti' lands with a slightly tougher feel as a darker monochrome runs the piece early on, before emerging arps and a prophetic sounding break venture into surreal territory.

Making his label debut with the lone interpretation of 'Aleana' is Giovanny Aparicio who comes off successful releases for Proton Music and Sol Selectas. The Colombian artist does a masterful job at bringing his own unique style to the track, with a tougher framework and sensational final act where haunting vocal choirs and elastic-like lines make for an otherworldly moment.

Rounding out the release is Nature Rec boss Leo Perez who provides the lone interpretation of 'Piedad'. We last heard from Leo with his sensational 'Evolución' collaboration with occasional studio partner Dhany G, also released under the Nature banner. On 'Piedad' Leo plays off the strengths of the original, perfectly conveying it's emotive qualities, while adding his own delicate touches along the way, and ultimately rounding out the release on a feel good note.
