Featured small Interviews Antrim [Interview] By Release Promo Posted on 18th January 2024 19 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Continuing to build on a remarkable career, Cordoba resident Antrim ended 2023 looking back on what was perhaps his best year to date. 'Risk / Suru' via his Or Two Strangers imprint got the year underway in impressive fashion, setting up a string of excellent offerings via Paul Thomas' UV, Nick Warren's The Soundgarden and Guy Mantzur's Moments. Antrim's creative partnership with Clubsonica dates back almost a decade, with his label debut being a 2015 remix of Kamilo Sanclemente's 'The Art of Voice', a release which would lead to two well-received singles 'Catwalk' and 'Hoffnung', the latter of which being a Beatport Organic House number one release. Now, a as perennial favourite of Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, Antrim makes a welcome return to Clubsonica with 'La Fin Du Monde | Meeting Point', alongside remixes from Dabeat & Juan Pablo Torrez and D-Nox. Progressive Astronaut caught up with Antrim to learn more about the release of 'La Fin Du Monde | Meeting Point', his background, creative process, DJing, and more. Enjoy. Hi Guille, thanks for catching up with us today! How was your holiday? Hey guys, thanks for the invitation, it is always a pleasure to talk to you. I spent the holiday with my family, it just so happened that I had a concert in my city, and I was able to enjoy them. Did you have a gig on NYE and if so how was it? I had a concert in Buenos Aires, in a city near the capital and it was incredible. Big outdoor parties are always held on NYE. Looking back across 2023 what tracks or gigs stood out for you and why? A notable release was my EP on Moments, the label of Guy Mantzur who is one of my favorite artists. It was very special for me to get an EP there. And as for concerts, the first ones that come to mind are in ADE and Sri Lanka. They both had great energy and I had a lot of fun. Take us through a day in your life, from a possible morning routine through to your production work and otherwise, please. My days are very flexible but I generally use the mornings to answer emails, listen to demos for my labels, talk to my agents about gigs. After lunch, it's time to listen to promos and download new music. And I use the afternoon/night to produce, which is the time where inspiration comes the most. It doesn't always work but I always try hahaha You have a new EP ‘La Fin Du Monde | Meeting Point’ for Clubsonica to start the year, tell us about the release and how these tracks represent the Antrim sound. It is a release that I have been waiting for a long time. I've been using it all year and the response has always been good. The main track has that hypnotic arpeggio that always characterizes me and I love doing it. And the second track is good for the dance floor, getting people a little hyped up with a loud drop. It's a great release and is accompanied by very good remixes. Let our readers inside your studio for a moment, what is your current setup and what studio tools are featured heavily in your recent productions and more specifically on your EP for Clubsonica? Well, I use ableton live, a UAD audio interface and Dynaudio monitors. And for the latest releases I'm using my Prophet-6 and Minilogue Bass synthesizers a lot. But my favorite VSTs also always appear to do some things, like DIVA, DUNE, ACE. Clubsonica is a label you’ve had an ongoing relationship with for some time, what makes the label a good home for your music? I have known Juan Pablo for many years, we trust each other a lot. I have seen how his label has grown over the years. He is very neat to work with and puts a lot of effort into each release. Which makes it always a great place to release my music. The label assembled a great selection of remixes on the release as well from D-Nox and Juan Pablo Torrez & Dabeat, was the selection process something you were involved in and why do you think they were a good fit to re-interpret these tracks? The label proposed D-Nox to me as the first remixer and I said yes immediately. It wasn't necessary to think much hahaha you know, he is a top artist. And Juan Pablo always does great things and even more so if he is accompanied by Dabeat. You had a lot of high profile gigs across 2023, both in Argentina and abroad, would you say this was your busiest year to date as a DJ? And please tell us how you approach DJing and more specifically programming a set. It was definitely my busiest year yet. For example, my tour of Europe/Asia was the longest I had ever been on. And you already know that Argentina keeps us busy all year round. I am very happy about it. It was a great year! As for the programming of a set, throughout the previous week, I update the music depending on whether the concert I have, whether it is outdoors, a festival or a club. But anyway you never know what will happen, or what I will use. In all of them, improvisation is the most important thing. Can you tell me a bit about how your work as a DJ has influenced your view of music, your way of listening to tracks, and also, your work as a producer? Every concert is a learning experience. Whether being the DJ, or listening to someone else. It's like adding flying miles, each time you do it more naturally, with more confidence. When preparing the sets you can already imagine what will work for a certain party and what won't, and only experience gives you that. The same when it comes to producing new music, your ideas become clearer, and you are more sure of which path to follow. Current Top five tracks in your sets? I loved Sasha's latest remix, also some unofficial remixes from my friend Ezequiel Arias are always in my sets. And the rest would be my tracks, which are working very well and will see the light this new year. If you are not DJing, producing or socializing at clubs, where do we find you? And doing what? You can find me in some new bar or restaurant trying something new with friends hahaha If you could set up an event with a line-up of five artists of your choice, who would you book and what set times would you ascribe to the artists? Speaking of a 7-hour night, which is normal around here, 5 DJs would be a lot, so i will tell you 4. Guy Mantzur 05:00 to 07:00 Hernan Cattaneo 03:00 to 05:00 Lee Burridge 01:30 to 03:00 Sebastien Leger 00:00 to 01:30 But I think it would be unfair to have so little time for these artists, let's think about a long festival hahaha Looking back on your career thus far, what advice would you offer to your younger self? I would tell myself, study more music! If you were not a DJ/Producer what do you think you’d be doing with your life? Next question hahaha, I can't imagine doing anything else What TV series have you been enjoying recently and what are some of your all time favourites? 'Succession' was a series I really enjoyed this year. And some of the best of all time for me are 'Breaking Bad' and 'Game of Thrones'. What can we look forward to from Antrim in 2024? Above all, and at the end of the day, the most important thing... a lot of new and fun music! 'La Fin Du Monde | Meeting Point' is available now via Clubsonica: http://tinyurl.com/3kbsh98s/a>
