Andy King – Catena [Soundteller Records]

Rounding out the month of April in style, Deersky's Soundteller Records welcomes Andy King back to the label for a new single. With two singles and a remix released across the last two calendar years, UK artist Andy King has found a comfortable home on Soundteller, while also spending time on ICONYC, Stripped Recordings and UV. Now in continuing to build a bond with the Polish imprint, Andy returns with the much anticipated 'Catena' alongside remixes from Dowden and Monojoke.

Staying true to his progressive roots Andy crafts a production that is equal parts groovy and hypnotic. From a low slung, voluptuous groove to fragmented synth phrasing and nicely placed vocal elements there is a lot to like leading into the break. The centrepiece however does define the track, with it's striking melodic theme and hopeful atmospheric qualities ultimately paving the way towards a deep yet spiritually uplifting finale.

The first interpretation is provided by Dowden who returns to the label for his second appearance. As one of Canada's premiere progressive house artists, Toronto resident Dowden first appeared on Soundteller in 2018 with a contribution to the label's popular 'Vibrant Vibeland' series, with more recent offerings via Balkan Connection, Deep Down Music and Mango Alley also being sensational. Now returning to Soundteller for his first remix, Dowden delivers a quality rendition of 'Catena'. Taking a cue from the original, this is a mix that carries much of it's magic but with a bolder, more robust framework, and evolving melodic theme taking centrestage, ultimately landing it squarely on a peak time dance floor. Amazing work as usual from Dowden.

Longtime Soundteller artist Monojoke returns to the label and provides the second and final interpretation to close the release out. Continuing his deeper ways and beloved for recent offerings via Nature Rec. and Songuara, the Polish artist dials the tempo back and reshapes the groove for a breathtaking organic rendition. Warm atmospheric phrasing combined with transcendental sounds and dusty percussion make this a mix that's perfect for an outdoor dance floor or late night listening session. An excellent remix from Monojoke which rounds out three standout versions of Andy King's 'Catena’, making for another excellent release from Soundteller Records. Don’t miss it.
