Continuing to add exciting new talent to their roster, Antrim’s Or Two Strangers welcomes Alan Schultz to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Buenos Aires, the Argentinean artist first emerged a year ago with a gorgeous remake of Rhye’s ‘Sinful’. Played by Hernan Cattaneo on his famed SunsetStream Eclipse Edition, it quickly established Alan as a new name to watch in the world of progressive and organic house. A two-track collaboration with fellow countryman and scene veteran DJ Paul followed quickly thereafter and sits as Alan’s only official release to date. Now adding Antrim’s Or Two Strangers to his resume, Alan debuts on the label with a three-track showcase entitled ‘Desert Rose’.

The release begins with the heady vibes of the title selection ‘Desert Rose’. Smooth and groovy throughout, it carries a sleek hypnotic quality at the outset. Moving through layers of detailed percussion and misty atmospheres, as arpeggiated fragments, prophetic hooks and ominous overlays elevate mood into the second of two breaks. Anticipation builds once more with bassy rumblings rising towards a gentle apex, and eventually revealing an expressive finale.

The second selection ‘Resolution’ follows a similar sonic ethos to its predecessor and resonates on an equally impressive level. Remarkably well crafted, its robust, well-shaped bass line commands attention, moving through rolling contours and rhythmic pulses, while clattering percussion and haunting vocal edits add further spice to the groove. Ethereal phrasing rises as a primary motif across the second act, creating a surreal sonic environment, while siren-like synths and wispy effects act as perfect companions onwards to a stirring final movement.

The release concludes with ‘Madriguera’ which has already been featured by Hernan Cattaneo on his hugely popular Resident Podcast. Marrying nostalgic progressive sensibilities, Alan layers rolling rhythmic structures with dusty percussion, exotic drums and soulful strums. It’s a unique and highly engaging storyboard, one which takes instrumentation to newfound levels across the main break, while the subtleties command your attention for a mezmerizing finale. A unique and inspired creation from Alan Schultz, a new name to watch going forward who makes his first EP for Antrim’s Or Two Strangers a most memorable one.
