Adrian Roman – Savannah [Strange Town Recordings]

Canada's Strange Town Recordings opens up 2019 by welcoming Adrian Roman to the label for his debut single. The Spanish artist owns an impressive discography highlighted by releases on Dear Deer Black, Balkan Connection South America and Univack. Now debuting on one of Canada's premiere progressive imprints Adrian presents his latest single 'Savannah' alongside a remix from Dowden.

On ‘Savannah’ we see Adrian sticking to his progressive house roots while incorporating funky sensibilities. Spacious yet driving, it’s a groovy dance floor inspired cut from the start. Backed by a bouncy, well carved foundation it’s astral effects and tonal themes are a delight for the senses. The break expands on the cosmic narrative as ethereal overlays converge with otherworldly motifs before getting washed away as the groove drops for a powerful finish.

The lone interpretation of ‘Savannah’ is provided by Dowden who makes his label debut here. Previously known as Onez!e, the Canadian artist has settled into his Dowden alias quite nicely with appearances on John 00 Fleming’s JOOF Recordings and Toronto’s fast rising Dream Culture. Now making his Strange Town debut the Canadian artist puts a subversive twist on ‘Savannah’ which sits as a perfect complement to the original. There’s something mysterious locked inside this one, haunting at points yet epic and exhilarating at others. It’s subtle build and hypnotic drawl is heady to say the least, while a smashing break quickly sends the third act in overdrive. A massive remix from Dowden which rounds out a great release for Strange Town to get 2019 off to a promising start. Highly recommended.
