Adamson – Dank House [Undergroove Music]

10 min read

The latest release from Undergroove Music welcomes Adamson to the label for his debut single. Based in Berlin, the Digital Diamonds label boss has quickly made a name for himself in the electronic underground. His borderless, often quirky style is one of boundless appeal with several A-list DJs drawing attention to his work. His exquisite programming skills have also led him to DJ around the globe, delighting crowds in South America as well as at Afrika Burn and Burning Man. Now fresh off a remix for Code Therapy's 'Scape From Reality' Adamson debut's on Undergroove Music with 'Dank House' alongside remixes from Immortal Sun, Code Therapy and Adnan Jakubovic.

Beginning with the original mix Adamson explores the deeper more minimalistic spectrum of techno. Anchored by a punchy kick and wobbly bass tones it creates an alluring presence early. Ghostly vocal wails and an elastic-like arps fill in the framework while finely tuned percussion drives momentum forward. It's dramatic presence can't be overstated and it's achieved with tasteful modulation and timely transitions, as opposed to something overt or obvious. Definitely one for the more astute dance floors out there.

The first interpretation of 'Dank House' is provided by Immortal Sun who makes his label debut here. The Canadian artist has been a contributor to Adamson's Digital Diamonds imprint having delivered an EP in 2017 and a remix in 2019. Also finding a home on Techgnosis Records, Immortal Sun now debuts on Undergroove with a quality remix of 'Dank House'. Taking a more progressive minded approach the Canadian adds astral lines and a buzzing energy that's nicely dialled for peak time. The vocal elements get chopped and reprocessed, while several timely drops add all the dynamic flair you could ever want.

Next up is Code Therapy who also makes his label debut. Much like Immortal Sun, the Portuguese artist has also spent time on Digital Diamonds and Techgnosis while also landing on Blind Arc. Known for blending progressive house sensibilities with psychedelic design, Code Therapy takes 'Dank House' into his cross pollinated world. The mood from the original is well conveyed but with a much more fluid storyboard. Punchy kicks and thick slabs of bass make up the foundation, while trippy effects and percussive waves steal air. Powerful yet meditative it sits as a perfect complement to it's predecessors.

Rounding out the release and providing the third and final interpretation of 'Dank House' is Adnan Jakubovic. Hailing from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Adnan has been a fixture of the progressive underground since first appearing in 2011. Fast forward to present day and he owns an expansive discography highlighted by releases on Balkan Connection, Just Movement and Stellar Fountain. Now making his debut on Undergroove Adnan caps off the release with a stellar rendition of 'Dank House'. Mounds of chunky bass power the foundation while rugged rhythms and a strong effects narrative fill in the framework. As the main break commences a ghostly vocal motif descends over a bed of wispy atmospherics, creating moments of cinematic tension before smoothly transitioning into a driving finale. A stunning remix from Adnan which rounds out an excellent Undergroove Music debut for Adamson. With forthcoming music on Subios Records, Techgnosis Records, Alula Tunes and his own Digital Diamonds imprint, the Berlin resident is certainly an artist to follow as we move forward into fall season. Highly recommended.
