Michael A – Look Closer [Replug]

Progressive House savant Michael A returns to Cid Inc's Replug Records for his debut EP. The Belarus based artist first appeared on the Finnish imprint in November of 2016 with a contribution to the label's critically acclaimed 'Replugged', Vol. 2 collection. A subsequent release on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music followed in early 2017, ultimately leading to a second EP for the esteemed imprint earlier this year in collaboration with Montreal's Simply City. Now making his much anticipated return to Replug, Michael presents his first EP for the label entitled 'Look Closer'.

With Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J and Guy Mantzur singing his praises, Michael has been one of the underground's most in demand progressive artists. The lead track 'Paradox' sits right at the heart of the genre with it's electric vibe and fresh design. Set against a throbbing groove the piece rolls forward with a dramatic fervor as celestial vocal clusters launch the piece into percussive nirvana. Evolving with remarkable fluidity, the narrative expands into emotive territory, with evocative trails complementing the rugged underbelly. Michael's keen sense of the dance floor comes to light during the track's second act, as energy shifts into astral dynamics and redolent psychedelia, leading to a tepid rush and magical drop.

The companion and also title piece 'Look Closer' sets a reflective mood to cap off the release. It's emotive prowess is evident from the outset with a harmonic groove underpinning the track. Two interwoven lines work symphonic magic, creating a gentle but highly effective vortex of melody and colour. Mystically charmed as it strips down before a storyboard of effects catapults the piece into a glowing third act finale.

As progressive music continues to evolve and flourish under it's resurgence, Michael A has been at the core of the movement. 'Look Closer' epitomizes all that is fresh and exuberant about the genre, sitting comfortably as some of his all time best work.
