Arnold T. & Alain Pauwels – Havana [Nature Rec]

Nature Rec opens the Spring Season by welcoming Arnold T. and Alain Pauwels back to the label for their debut single. Hailing from France and Belgium respectively, the duo made their Nature Rec debut in December of last year with a contribution to the label's 'Nature VA' collection. Now landing back on the label for the second time in four releases, Arnold and Alain present 'Havana' alongside remixes from Leo Perez & Dhany G, Jonnas B and Andre Moret.

Arnold and Alain continue to build a great creative synergy on 'Havana'. The duo craft a warm, groovy and tastefully melodic slice of progressive house that's destined for dance floors this summer. It's smooth, voluptuous groove flows through nostalgic chord changes, while a playful section of arps and hopeful pads elevate mood through the break and onwards to a spine-tingling finale.

Nature Rec label managers Leo Perez and Dhany G continue to deliver quality music following excellent outings for Balkan Connection and Droid9 to begin the year. Their 'Havana' interpretation delights from it's first moments with a robust, chunky groove and exotic percussion laying the foundation for emerging arps and catchy chord stabs. Indistinct vocals add further depth at timely moments, perfectly setting up a celestial sounding break which seals it's emotive appeal.

Making his label debut and providing the second interpretation is Jonnas B. A staple of Colombia’s progressive underground for the better part of a decade, the Medellin based artist has earned play and support from the world’s biggest DJs, most notably Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while landing releases on Balkan Connection, Clubsonica Records and Stellar Fountain. For his 'Havana' interpretation Jonnas goes a touch bigger with a fuller, driving groove and a pacier tempo overall. It's smooth hypnotic sensibility is what truly delights though, free flowing across the first act, eventually revealing an expansive break that is not only trance inspired but also highly emotive. Clocking in at ten minutes this is a mix to get lost in during the early morning hours.

Rounding out the release and returning to the label is Andre Moret. Much like Arnold and Alain, the Brazilian artist made his Nature Rec debut with a contribution to the 'VA' Sampler last year. A strong start to the year has seen the Campinas resident record remixes for Balkan Connection and Clubsonica. Now landing back on Nature, Andre dials in a powerful rendition of 'Havana'. Crisp yet airy, the Brazilian's production seems to get cleaner with each successive outing. A reshaped groove brings a mountainous roll which will get any dance floor moving, while a dazzling array of musical fragments and charming atmospheres coverage for a gorgeous free form story. The main break brings one of the release's most reflective moments, and while it tugs at your heartstrings, Andre wisely pulls back as the groove drops for an understated finale. Classy stuff from the talented Brazilian which caps off another excellent offering from Nature Rec, a label who continues to surprise as they now embark on their fifth release. Highly recommended.
