Blanka Barbara – Lost in Digital Fog [Eat My Hat Music]

The latest release from Ziger’s Eat My Hat welcomes Blanka Barbara to the label for her debut EP. Born in Poland but now based in London, the classically trained pianist and composer has been delighting electronic music fans with her melodic techno sound for just over a year. Releases for Bevel Rec and Dynamica highlight her short but well-kept discography. Now stepping up for the most anticipated release of her career, Blanka debuts on Eat My Hat with ‘Lost in Digital Fog’.

Beginning with the title and showcase piece, Blanka crafts a proper slice of peak time melodic techno. Driving beats, electric rhythms and devilish effects make for a lively beginning, as cosmic arps and processed vocal stabs emerge across the first act. Stripping down into the break a futuristic air provides a sense of calm; placid and inviting in equal measure, eventually providing the perfect bridge to a charged drop and fiery finale.

The companion piece ‘Shadow Figure’ follows a similar sonic ethos, making it a perfect complement to its predecessor. Sitting at the heart of the piece is a pulsating groove and a gorgeous line of cascading pianos. Tasteful yet exhilarating, its sentimental nature expands during the main break, with the piano motif taking centrestage and providing contemplative moments, before a rush of noise sparks an arp driven drop and enchanting final movement. It caps off an inspired EP from Blanka Barbara, making for a brilliant debut on Ziger’s Eat My Hat Music that is not to be missed.
