December of 2018 marked the Russian artist's debut on the Indian imprint with a remix of Michael A's 'Endless Time'. 2019 then yielded a second and equally impressive outing, one where the Kazan resident overhauled 'Alumine' by Berni Turletti & Matias Chilano. Being a firm favourite of progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, along with releases on Cid Inc's Replug Records and US juggernaut Proton Music, have propelled Anton into one of the genre's premiere artists. Now book-ending his 2020 with a return to Juicebox, Anton presents his first original project for the label 'Alya'. Comprised of two tracks it’s the organic qualities of the title cut which gets the EP underway. Tranquil yet powerful, it’s robust low end offsets a canopy of placid atmospheres quite nicely, as effervescent phrasing and driving percussion push momentum forward into the break. Vivid tones and a gentle sonic sizzle highlight the centrepiece, adding moments of beauty and anticipation, on wards to a glowing finale. Rounding out the release and sitting as a lovely complement to its predecessor are the groovy vibes of ‘Midsommar’. Continuing to work in a more organic space, Anton’s melodic prowess fuels this hypnotic gem. Warm and fluid from the outset, it’s harmonic drifts and cascading pianos gently tease the senses, as a backdrop of hopeful atmospheres elevate mood across the first act. Coming to full fruition, the piano theme takes centrestage during the interlude, splitting moods between melancholic and emotive, making for a captivating break, before perfectly segueing into a percussive conclusion. It caps off a spirited two tracker from Anton, making his first original project for Juicebox Music a most memorable one. Highly recommended.
