Jero Nougues – Frostbite (Remixed) [Droid9]

The latest release from Droid9 finds the label showcasing new interpretations of 'Frostbite' by Jero Nougues. Originally released in August of 2018 as part of the two track 'Frostbite' EP it's smooth melodious vibe found favour with a broad spectrum of progressive house DJs. Now almost a year and a half on, Droid9 invites Ivanshee, Eli Spiral, Christian Monique and Daniel Glover to re-interpret the track as we move closer to 2020.

Making the most noise pre-release has been the Ivanshee remix which leads the package off. A reworked groove and elastic-like designs gives it a greater dance floor sensibility than the original perhaps while the vocal elements get utilized wonderfully. Reprocessed for maximum sensory stimulation they drift through the journey with an unpredictable flair as electronic rhythms and timely chord changes provide both emotive and dramatic moments.

Eli Spiral was a big supporter of the original version having charted it on Beatport and he also turns in a stunning interpretation here. The tempo comes up quite a bit with a full peak time flavoured groove sitting at the foundation. Phasing vocals, spacey arps and liquid like acid lines converge for the ultimate rush of energy, before a stripped down second act perfectly segues into an effects laden drop.

The perpetually on form Christian Monique is next and once again delivers a quality production. The Italian artist focuses a bit more on emotive qualities with big bass swells and impassioned chord changes ultimately rooting the piece. Fiery percussion and a nice array of rhythmic elements make it perfect for a peak time dance floor, with a tranquil break adding all the anticipation you could ever want.

Rounding out the release is Daniel Glover who provides an old school version that nicely complements it's predecessors. Taking a cue from the original and upping the tempo a touch the UK artist adds effervescent overlays which sit nicely atop the main arp and exhilarating groove. A gradual rise across the main break brings some subtle but powerful tension, before a wave of noise sparks a groovy drop and driving finale. It caps off a great remix edition for Droid9 and Jero Nougues, one which should find its way into the sets of a wide assortment of progressive DJs. Highly Recommended.
