Vaedar – Sigma [Zephyr Music]

Zephyr Music opens the summer season by welcoming Vaedar back to the label for a new single. Hailing from India, Vaedar first emerged just over a year ago with a pair of releases via Zephyr label affiliate Abstract Space. With a sound that incorporated an old school progressive house vibe with an uplifting musical appeal, Vaedar would quickly be recognized by the progressive music community as a name to watch. 2023 has seen the Indian talent emerge further with a string of projects for Zephyr. Across a prolific three-month stretch, Vaedar has recorded three remixes for the Indian imprint, ultimately leading to his debut solo single 'Sigma', alongside remixes from FALKO 33 and JOLO.

Vaedar's melody crafting prowess is on full display here as 'Sigma' lands as one of his most heartfelt productions to date. Nostalgic arps, trance-inspired melodies and wispy effects paint a colourful wave of texture, while bubbly basslines and pulsating beats translate that message to the dance floor. Undeniably old school, it's retro-qualities work well, particularly across a quirky break where subtle modulation perfectly preludes a playful, childlike finale.

Returning to Zephyr for the first remix is FALKO 33 who makes his eighth appearance on the label here. Also laying claim to projects or for Ambi Records and Electronic Tree, FALKO 33's deeper sound has worked amazingly well on 'Sigma'. From stripped back beginnings comes flickering arps, emerging atmospheres and haunted vocal pads. Hopeful and positive throughout, it's nostalgic chord stabs provide a strong emotional theme across the first movement, perfectly setting up a break which is both tranquil and uplifting, before a smooth segue cues a gorgeous meditative finale.

The release concludes with JOLO returning to the label for the second and final remix of 'Sigma'. South African artist Johan Loubser aka JOLO has found a comfortable home on Zephyr since making his label debut last year. The Lichtenburg resident has now appeared on the label twelve times across a ten month creative stretch. Continuing to build a bond with the label moving forward, JOLO dials in a solid reedition of 'Sigma' which complements the previous two versions quite nicely. The pacier tempo of the original is well-maintained, as are it's retro-progressive qualities, but there is an added edge here with tougher kick drums and meaner percussion paving the way for a wall of harmonious sound, a magical moment which is not only sure to captivate your dance floor, but also rounds out the release on a strong note.
