SH.AH – Home Now [BrokenHearted]

Eleven Of July's BrokenHearted opens the fall season by welcoming SH.AH to the label for his debut EP. Based in the United Arab Emirates, Shahi Mohamed aka SH.AH has achieved measurable success since first emerging in 2021. A release for UK imprint inU established a sound which incorporated a fusion of genres, from progressive to organic house and melodic techno. The next three years would see the Alexandria resident find his footing more in the latter, recording projects for Bayati Records and Somatique Music. Also an accomplished DJ, SH.AH comes armed with a proven track record of successful performances at some of the most renowned venues and festivals that his country has to offer. With 2024 already yielding a successful EP for Outer Space Oasis, SH.AH now adds BrokenHearted to his resume with 'Home Now'.

Beginning with the darker monochromes of the title selection, SH.AH's craftsmanship reveals itself, as striking stabs and percolating effects shapeshift atop muscular kick drums and chunky grooves. It's this menacing amalgamation of sound which carves out a heady path into a thought provoking break, one which proves to be both tense and foreboding. Roboticized vocals steal the air amidst billowing sonics for a prophetic mood across the interlude, eventually giving way to a finale of cleverly coaxed synth mutations that are nicely suited to the peak-time dancefloors out there.

Beneath the arcane sounds of 'Home Now' lies the equally impressive 'Explore'. Here SH.AH's elusive production chops serve him well as he crafts a concise journey that is bursting with ultrasonic qualities and a keen sense of rhythm and groove. Flowing through shuffled percussive arrangements, clustered stabs and tasteful melodic fragments, the first act evolves with a keen sense of flow, eventually revealing a sci-fi vocal and anticipatory vibes which drives energy into the break. Not content to rest on his laurels, SH.AH pushes his creative boundaries further here, introducing further vocal deconstruction, as flurries of drums and a vortex of noise ultimately summons a huge finale to round out the release, with what might be SH.AH's most far-reaching production to date.
