Maximalism - Say My Name EP [Dear Deer]

The latest from Dear Deer Records welcomes Maximalism to the label for a brand new EP. Hailing from Minsk, Belarus, the duo appeared on the labels 'White' division in March of this year with the three track 'Enticement' EP. Now stepping up to the labels primary platform, Maximalism presents their 'Say My Name' EP alongside remixes from Rafael Cerato and Kiki.

Beginning with the title cut you get a smooth progressive groove and striking vocal elements. Emotive bass swells and clattering drums surround the dynamic kick while tasteful effects fill out the framework. The drop out of the break is particularly massive, cleverly edited for maximum punch and a big but not too big dramatic response. The companion piece 'Lost' comes in deeper and more laid back making for a great complement to the title track. A simple but effective lead motif cascades throughout the first act before a full vocal narrative is revealed during the breakdown. Meandering and melancholic, it's a gorgeous centrepiece, there's a sense of despair in the vocals which sets up a strong emotive finale.

The first interpretation of 'Lost' is provided by Rafael Cerato who is making his label debut. The French artist famed for releases on Diynamic and Systematic has had another amazing year. Prolific yet incredibly consistent he's been a mainstay of the Einmusika roster and delivers an incredible remix of 'Lost' here. The tempo comes up quite a bit and the dancefloor sensibility is pretty massive with its wonky, hook heavy flair and perfectly dialled in groove. This would work excellent as a dub but the vocals are the icing on the cake essentially, adding emotion to the cutting edge electronics throughout the seven minute journey.

The release concludes with Kiki who is also making his label debut following a remix on My Favorite Robot in September. The German artist boasts an incredible discography with several releases on Bpitch Control, Moodmusic, Get Physical and Crosstown Rebels. A quiet stretch in 2017 makes his appearance here all the more welcome and he closes the release out in style with a killer rendition of 'Lost'. Techno inspired, it's acidic groove is immediately infectious while the reworked vocal elements sound fabulous, edited and processed to perfection, carrying a dramatic break and getting fully unleashed during a sizzling finale. Great remix from Kiki and a top notch release from Dear Deer, perhaps one of their best this year. Highly Recommended.
