With 2023 getting underway with the '1001 Nights' EP, Berlin based artist Lost Rhythm has already generated considerable momentum across the year's first quarter. Coming courtesy of his Lostium imprint, the two-track showcase featured a unique amalgamation of cosmic and cross-cultural qualities, a sound-fusion which earned the praise of Adriatique, Atish, Mind Against and more. 2022 saw Lost Rhythm make his Steyoyoke debut with 'Aetheria', a track which was remixed by label stalwart MPathy and appeared on the imprint's popular 'Ethereal Techno' series. Now, continuing to build a bond with the long-standing German imprint, Lost Rhythm returns to Steyoyoke for his first official single 'Dark Ocean', alongside a remix from Nick Devon. 'Dark Ocean' is an apt barometer of where Lost Rhythm's headspace is at, as he lets pulsating rhythms and airy vocal phrasing descend over punchy beats and tight machine-gun style grooves. Gaining momentum across the first act, astral synth motifs and billowing stabs marry perfectly with flickering percussive arrangements and timely chord changes as the main break approaches. Here Lost Rhythm displays his keen dance floor sensibility, letting the vocal breathe against a calming yet anticipatory backdrop of bassy textures, before eventually revealing striking electronic clusters as the vocal cues a heads down finale. The release concludes with Steyoyoke mainstay Nick Devon providing the lone interpretation of 'Dark Ocean'. Greek artist Nick Devon has been a beloved figure in Steyoyoke's now thirteen year run. The Athen's resident has appeared on the label just shy of one hundred times since making his debut on the in 2013. Always a creative remixer, Nick dials in an impressive rendition of 'Dark Ocean' for his first remix of 2023. While maintaining the elusive spirit of the original, the Greek artist crafts a sweeping sonic experience all his own, a prophetic journey into an astral hinterland, where billowing grooves and submerged designs surface from their cosmic architecture, onwards to a finale of fragmented synth phrasing and emotional overlays.
