Las Von – Saudade [ICONYC]

John Johnson’s ICONYC closes out a successful year with a new single from label artist Las Von. The Canadian producer has grown immensely since his debut in April of 2017. In just over 18 months he’s crafted some of progressive music’s most emotive tracks, while finding a home on the fast rising imprints Plaisirs Sonores Records and Somatic Records. Now returning to ICONYC he presents his latest single entitled ‘Saudade’ alongside remixes from Jamie Stevens and Wellenrausch.

Fans of Las Von have long remarked about the musicality and timeless qualities that his work carries. ‘Saudade’ is yet another fine example of that with it’s spacious, refined approach. From cinematic beginnings come vibrant chord stabs, gentle key changes and detailed percussion. It’s buzzing low end creates a massive sense of space, cavernous in a way, perfectly housing poignant lead themes and cosmic effects, uniting for a perfect sonic marriage which rises to a tasteful apex. Stunning music from Las Von.

The first interpretation of ‘Saudade’ is provided by Jamie Stevens who returns to the label for his second appearance. The Australian artist has built an impressive discography in recent years, highlighted by releases on the industry’s most cutting edge imprints, such as All Day I Dream, Bedrock, microCastle and Lost & Found. Long a favourite of John Digweed, Guy J and Patrice Baumel; Jamie has turned in one of his finest remixes to date here, utilizing the original elements to great effect while stripping the piece down to a free form cosmic journey. Highlighted by afro tinged drums, astral clusters and a tight, punchy core, this is an audio travelogue primed for magical peak time moments. Definitely something your dancefloor will remember long after the night is over.

The release concludes with Wellenrausch making their label debut and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Saudade’. Renowned for their releases on Afterglow, Blackhole and Markus Schulz’s Coldharbour Recordings the German duo have been successfully bridging the gap between progressive house and trance for well over a decade. Now leading much more towards the former, Wellenrausch close the release out with a stunning interpretation of ‘Saudade’. Smooth yet buoyant, it’s low end is wonderfully contoured for maximum bounce and warmth. As the narrative progresses a bubbly lead theme intertwines with hypnotic fragments, before a heartfelt break delivers just the right amount of drama and emotion. A further departure from the original than Jamie’s interpretation and thus sitting as a more than worthy alternative to both. It caps off what is not only a great release but a great year for ICONYC, one of measurable growth with a look forward to an even brighter future.
