Khalvin – Diour [Stellar Fountain]

Stellar Fountain opens the month of July by welcoming Khalvin to the label for his debut single. Hailing from Italy, Khalvin first emerged in 2017 with a three-track EP via T U S H music. With a sound that incorporated elements of progressive house and techno, the Treviso resident would go on to secure projects with Be Adult Music, Beatfreak, KULTO and Suprematic, the latter of which showcased more of an organic quality. Now, after beginning the year with a with a single for Freegrant Music, Khalvin adds Stellar Fountain to his resume with 'Diour', alongside remixes from Nicolas Soria and Delaunay.

Continuing to explore organic themes, 'Diour' lands with gorgeous musicality without losing sight of the dancefloor. Soulful instrumentation and cross-cultural vocal motifs play out across punchy beats and exotic drums to create a smooth engaging narrative. The main break serves to build some additional tension and emotion, a delicate balance which is pulled off well and ultimately preludes an gorgeous finale.

The first interpretation of 'Diour' is provided by Nicolas Soria who returns to the label following his 'The Journey' single to end 2022. The Rio Grande resident masterfully reworks the track into a bigger more direct club-style version. A beefed up drum section and swing heavy rhythms work wonders at creating a great cadence, while the main themes shine throughout, particularly across the break where the vocal comes to life.

The release concludes with Delaunay making his label debut with the second and final interpretation of 'Diour'. Born in France but now calling Berlin home, Delaunay adds an additional dancefloor interpretation which stays true to the main themes from the original. A tougher low end and more pronounced use of the melodic elements make for what is the biggest sounding version on the release, no doubt something which could find favour from a broad range of DJs, and also rounds out the release on an uplifting note. Highly recommended.
