The Mexican artist first came to our attention in 2014 with releases on We Are Here. More recently the Queretaro resident has released an EP on Dear Deer's White division while playing a strong role in his country's nightlife, having opened for AudioJack, Blond:ish, Oliver Koletzki and Stelios Vassiloudis. Now making his first appearance on Soundteller, Hole Box presents his 'Alone' EP. Beginning with the title and showcase piece ‘Alone’ Hole Box crafts a deep, enchanting narrative. Warm and groovy, it’s meaty low end is wonderfully contoured while exotic percussion, hazy harmonics and fragmented instrumentation fill in the framework. Musically inspired yet tastefully restrained, it's indistinct inflection becomes quite powerful and something for the more astute listener, while it's escalating warmth is something to capture everyone's heart by tracks end. 'All My Dreams' follows a similar blueprint, coming in deep and percussive with a lovely hip swinging cadence. Less distinct however are it's musical themes which sit under a hazy harmonic resonance. It leaves clever transitions, vocal elements and finely detailed drum work to set up a gorgeous finale. The release concludes with the more progressive minded 'Sitadur'. While the design and overall vibe remain quite true to the previous two tracks there's a fuller more energetic groove behind this one. Also mildly cross cultural, there's a strong message at the core which conveys reflective qualities and leaves you wondering what might be next from Hole Box, a talented artist for whom the best is certainly yet to come.
