Frank Sonic – Body & Soul [ICONYC]

Returning from a five week hiatus, John Johnson's ICONYC welcomes Frank Sonic back to the label for a new single.  The German artist is a familiar name to ICONYC fans, having released a single and remix for the US imprint across 2020. This year has remained prolific for Frank, as he comes off spring projects for Awen Records and OFF Recordings to unveil his new ICONYC single 'Body & Soul, alongside remixes from Stil & Bense, Dimitris Pap and William Medagli & Thallulah.

Much loved for his cross pollination of progressive house and techno, Frank flexes his studio versatility on 'Body & Soul' with a vocal led electronica piece. Hugely emotive, it's spine-tingling arps and placid pads provide the perfect prelude to a soulful male vocal which emerges across the first half. Broken beats and dynamic percussion then beef up the framework as an apex is reached, giving it all the club sensibility it needs.

Completing the release are three dance floor inspired remixes beginning with ICONYC stalwarts Stil & Bense. The German duo craft a dark and devilish slice of melodic techno, utilizing the vocal wonderfully amidst an array of stunning effects. With a flair for the dramatic, piercing tones and tasteful modulation rise out of an emotive break, making for a buzzing, peak time worthy finale.

Moving forward, Dimitris Pap makes his label debut and in fact presents his first released track here. The Greek artist starts his discography off on a great note with a mix that is both whimsical and dreamy. The tempo comes back down to that of the Original, while it's heady groove and lazy percussive rides provide the framework for bubbly arps and timely swells to work their magic.

Rounding out the release are William Medagli & Thallulah who return to the label following the February release of their 'Arizona' single. The Italian duo adds further depth to the package with an indie-dance style take on the track that should find favour with a broad range of jocks. The vocal gets reprocessed for an entirely different feel and great use of arps complements the 80s inspired drum work for a mix that is both concise and exhilarating. Super stuff from William Medagli & Thallulah which caps off a massive return to ICONYC for Frank Sonic. Don't miss it.
