Pena's Flow Vinyl returns with a hugely anticipated single from Blusoul. The Greek producer is making his debut appearance on the Portuguese imprint following releases on Guy J's Lost & Found Records, Juicebox Music and Movement Recordings. Although much loved throughout the progressive music community Blusoul has never been a prolific artist thus making his new material all the more special. His latest entitled 'Under' comes alongside remixes from Dimitri Nakov and Stas Drive.

Beginning with the Original mix we find Blusoul on top form with a dark creation that's nicely dialled for the dance floor. Tough beats, crunchy electronics and a distinctive vocal stab highlight the first act, before an ominous break perfectly segues into a finale where the vocal evolves in kaleidoscopic fashion. For the less vocally inclined there is also included is a Dub included with all the rhythm and groove of the original mix. Hard to go wrong with either version here but I prefer the vocal one.

Also making his Flow Vinyl debut is Dimitri Nakov who is much loved for his past productions on Bedrock, Sudbeat and Selador. The Ibiza resident has stripped 'Under' down for a trippy, late night interpretation that sits as a lovely complement to the original. Fuelled by a smooth, tech house style framework the first act is a lesson in building subtle tension. The vocal motif sits perfectly in the mix while the main break goes left of centre, shifting the narrative with a wonky lead theme that makes for a highly memorable conclusion. Once again a Dub version has also been included here but it does differ from the original with a deeper, rolling vibe and while the vocal does still pop up the main theme from the first remix does not. Definitely an opportunity for the more adventurous DJs to use both versions.

The release concludes with Stas Drive returning to the label for his second appearance. The Ukrainian artist first appeared on the Portuguese imprint with 'Mocca Sunset', an EP recorded alongside Argentinean artist Mike Griego. As one of 2014's biggest progressive house tracks it saw extensive play from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J and Guy Mantzur. More recently Stas has found a home on Einmusika's secondary Ein division where his 'Gravastar' EP was released in collaboration with fellow progressive star Dmitry Molosh. Always a creative remixer Stas has taken 'Under' into his world of trippy techno but with a deeper, afro edge. It's tight, minimalistic framework is immediately appealing, wonderfully adorned with sonic artefacts and intricate drum work. The afro rolls are an excellent touch and while there is a running vocal narrative it's quite indistinct. For a brief moment a tonal theme sparks an emotive flash during the break but it's quickly pulled back in favour of a more modern, percussive finale. A killer remix from Stas and my favourite version on the release. It rounds out a much welcome and hugely successful return for Pena's Flow Vinyl who have more exciting things in the pipeline so keep your ear to the ground.
