Alex M.I.F. – Levitation [Stellar Fountain]

Stellar Fountain begins the new year by welcoming Alex M.I.F. back to the label for a new single. The Ukrainian artist has been a steady contributor to the Hungarian imprint since making his debut in 2013 with the 'Deep City Lights' EP. Follow up singles then landed later that same year and in 2016, before he eventually returned to the label in 2020 with a contribution to the 'Signals from the Void' V collection. Now following a release on Miss Monique's Siona Records to end 2020, Alex returns to Stellar Fountain with 'Levitation' alongside remixes from Greg Tomaz and FAIDE.

Beginning with the original mix Alex moves into melodic techno territory with a foundation of breakbeats, liquid-like rhythms and astral synth design. Wispy atmospherics, spiralling arps and trailing effects advance the narrative, perfectly setting the stage for a gorgeous musical lead to descend over the framework as the break commences. The piano-like cascades add a poignant flair, before a well crafted build does wonders to set the mood for a groovy drop.

Making his label debut and providing the first remix of 'Levitation' is Greg Tomaz. The Indian artist has been part of the progressive house scene for the better part of decade, showcasing his music via 3rd Avenue, BCSA, Juicebox Music, One Of A Kind and Soundteller Records. 2020 proved to be Greg's most prolific year to date, releasing three remixes and a two track EP. Now continuing that momentum as 2021 begins the Bangalore resident delivers a deep rendition of 'Levitation'. Backed by a smooth, spacious groove, the Indian artist's detailed percussion and intriguing effects build an interesting sonic architecture. A fragmented take on the lead theme plays out across the second act, less prominent than the original and married perfectly with their gaseous surroundings for a gorgeous final.

Rounding out the release with the second interpretation of 'Levitation' is FAIDE who also makes his label debut. The British artist owns a short but well kept discography highlighted by releases on Alpha Black, Kiosk ID and Stil Vor Talent. Now landing on Stellar Fountain to begin the year, the Brighton resident turns in a powerful interpretation of 'Levitation'. Engaging from the outset, its warm framework is accented by smooth rhythms and hypnotic arps, converging for a gorgeous free form story across the first act. Quirky melodies and sections of the lead lift the mood higher, before a timely break ushers in a rush of drums for an exhilarating final movement. A brilliant remix from FAIDE which rounds out a great release from Stellar Fountain to begin the new year. Highly recommended.
