Airbas – We Are | Get Over You [Clubsonica Records]

Clubsonica Records continues a strong spring season by welcoming Airbas to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Italy, Roberto Sant began his musical journey playing piano as a child, before discovering electronic music in the early 90's, and shortly thereafter developing his skills as a DJ and producer. 2012 proved to be a pivotal year for the Venice resident, as he coined the Airbas alias, a producer moniker which has now enjoyed a twelve-year creative journey. On the strength of recent releases via Freegrant Music, Hoomidaas and One Of A Kind, the Italian artist has become one of his country's most intriguing electronic music exports, with a sound that often finds the creative space between indie-dance, deep and progressive house. With 2024 beginning with his latest Freegrant Music project, the well-received 'Following You' EP, Airbas now continues on an upwards trajectory with his Clubsonica debut 'We Are | Get Over You', alongside remixes from Greenage, Lisandro and Magitman.

Beginning with 'We Are', Airbas utilizes the vocal talents of Eva Sizar to craft a soulful journey that should leave long-lasting memories. Together the duo create an emotive slice of progressive house that arrives in good time for the impending summer season. Airbas' warm key changing grooves and timeless tonal themes set the perfect foundation for Eva's memorable hooks to work their magic. She injects the piece with authentic soul and emotion, as Airbas' effortless sounding grooves and subtle musicality provide the perfect dance floor vehicle to deliver the tracks transcendent message. Diversifying his portfolio further, Airbas collaborates with Stephen Thomas Sims for the EP's second selection 'Get Over You'. Following an intro of plush beats and rippling grooves comes a wave of warm overlays and delicate effects. Effortlessly rising, waves of percussion and rhythmic pulses set the stage for Stephen's sublime vocal chops to deliver inspired moments. Soulful and impassioned, the London resident's mystical phrasing highlights the piece, drifting across an underbelly of muted keys and rolling drums during the break, before a warm rush ushers in a glowing finale.

Returning to the label for the first interpretation of 'We Are' is Greenage. Based in India, Greenage has carved out a unique sonic identity in the world of progressive and organic house, resulting in a string of uniquely crafted records that present a resonant worldly sound. With well over a decade's worth of production credits, the Goa resident has emerged as one of his country's most established artists, laying claim to a resume that includes releases for Mango Alley, Songuara, Tale & Tone and WARPP, while earning praise from Lee Burridge, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. No stranger to Clubsonica, Greenage made his label debut in 2023 with 'Mind Control', a track featured on the label's popular 'Sampler Series', and co-produced alongside progressive house star Golan Zocher. Now, finding his way back to the label in solo capacity, Greenage delivers a sultry remix of 'We Are' for his Clubsonica return. Opting for a deeper, dubbier and more refined take on the track, Greenage conveys the mood from the original beautifully, for a less vocally dominant, yet equally emotive and at times cosmic version that's perfect for the more astute dancefloors out there.

The second and final interpretation of 'We Are' is provided by Lisandro who makes his label debut. Hailing from Argentina, Lisandro has been seamlessly blending the world's of music and cinema together for the better part of a decade. As a notable figure in music scoring for Netflix, the Buenos Aires resident has also found a place in the world of organic house, a genre where his elusive vision has flourished. Regarded as of the scene's elite talents, Lisandro's immaculate sound has found a place on Amulanga, Do Not Sit On The Furniture, Songuara, The Soundgarden and his own Flug Lab imprint, the latter of which acts as his primary home. Now, as 2024 approaches its summer season, Lisandro adds Clubsonica to his resume with a glowing take on 'We Are'. Built beautifully across a whimsical first act, it's a gorgeous coax of glistening electronics and poignant chord changes which set the course for a memorable musical journey. A heartfelt break proves to be one of the most impactful parts of the creation, as a tasteful amalgamation of soaring vocals, muted keys and wispy effects provide moments of hope and reflection, before smoothly segueing into a finale that sounds tailor made for a morning or daytime dancefloor.

The release concludes with Magitman returning to the label with the lone interpretation of 'Get Over You'. The Israeli artist has been a fixture of the electronic underground for well over a decade, laying claim to a portfolio that includes releases via DAYS like NIGHTS, Proton Music and Selador. Also finding a comfortable home on Clubsonica, Magitman made his label debut in 2020 with a deep and intricate take on 'New Earth' by Andre Moret. Now, following a remix for Dmiitry Molosh and Proton Music to begin the year, Magitman makes a welcome return to Clubsonica with a groovy take on 'Get Over You'. Drawing on the sensibilities of the original, the Israeli artist reworks the foundation with punchier kicks and tighter grooves. Resonating perfectly against a wall of effervescent arps are enlightening vocal phrases, striking at opportune moments, while perfectly married with sweeping effects and rejuvenating melodies, in turn creating a contrast of colour and musicality which pushes onwards to an uplifting finale.
