Born in Iran but now calling Costa Rica home, Hassan Maroofi first emerged a short two years ago with a contribution to Buddhabrot's 'Constellations' collection. Immediately recognized for his nostalgic progressive sound, the San Jose resident would go on to showcase his music via 3rd Avenue, Nature Rec, RYNTH and The Purr across the next two calendar years. Also highly regarded as a DJ, Hassan has been a fixture of Costa Rica's nightlife for well over a decade, performing alongside top international talents such as Guy Gerber, Hernan Cattaneo, Marco Carola, Satoshi Tomiie and more. Meanwhile, David Charpentier has also achieved great success across his nearly two decades as a DJ. As a fixture of Costa Rica's nightlife, David has performed alongside Dubfire, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Jody Wisternoff and Nick Warren, amongst others. Paired together as studio partners since last year Hassan and David now follow projects for 3rd Avenue, Massive Harmony and The Purr with their Musique de Lune debut 'Sepia'. Already a favourite of Lee Burridge and Nick Warren, the title track continues to display what a great creative bond Hassan and David have as a duo. Well crafted and effortless sounding, 'Sepia' is a memorable progressive cut made purely for the dancefloor. Tough beats, warm swells and a myriad of flickering effects set the piece in motion, making way for bright percussion and charming synth phrasing. The mood is light, energetic and glowing as the main groove drops in and tactfully builds momentum into the break. Here, the duo unveil a spoken word vocal narrative, perfect to captivate any audience with it's inspired vibes and surrounding melodic clusters, an amalgamation of sound which ultimately peaks for a groove-centric finale. And for those who may not enjoy the vocal there is also a dub version included. Rounding out the release is 'Lumina' which keeps a similar pace and flow but with a greater emphasis on musicality. Powerful beats and commanding grooves serve as the anchor for timely piano stabs and charming melodies to intertwine for a smooth yet highly uplifting journey. The breakdown presents a softer dynamic which works really well given the grandiose vibes which precede it. An emphasis on atmosphere and space build a perfect combination of anticipation, emotion and eventually tension, as a short but impactful build unleashes a spirited finale to round out the release on a high note, one which makes for a great Musique de Lune debut for both Hassan Maroofi and David Charpentier.
