VITE & Hole Box – Midway [Musique de Lune]

Musique de Lune opens the fall season by welcoming VITE and Hole Box to the label for their debut EP. Hailing from Mexico, both VITE and Hole Box have emerged from their country's avant-garde electronic landscape with a distinctive organic sound. Noted for their attention to detail, arcane musicality and inventive drum arrangements, the duo's craft shines through vividly, making each one of their creations an absorbing experience. The duo's combined discography is highlighted by releases via trendsetting imprints such as Akbal Music, TOR, Tale & Tone and more, while the genre's premiere DJs have been steadfast with support along the way. Having previously worked on a project for Akbal Music, VITE and Hole Box now combine their extension forces once again, making their much anticipated Musique de Lune debut with 'Midway', alongside a remix from Ilias Katelanos & Plecta.

Continuing to evolve and impress, VITE & Hole Box deliver one of their most thematic creations to date in 'Midway'. Warm punchy beats and a rolling groove set the foundation for a smooth flow into heartfelt vocal samples, dusty percussive arrangements and a gorgeous array of orbiting effects. Mood continues to rise across the main break as fluttery motifs and harmonic refrains fade off into aquatic designs, as the beats re-emerge and the vocal flows through further evolution for a finale that should fare very well on all the daytime dancefloors out there. 'Emotional Things' proves to be a worthy compliment with it's exotic drum flurries and key changing buoyancy. Almost childlike sounding with it's playful creative lean, this is one of those feel good, unite the dancefloor type tunes for those sunrise moments.

Completing the release are Ilias Katelanos & Plecta who provide the lone interpretation of 'Midway'. Greek artist Ilias Katelanos is no stranger to the label having released 'Sud' as part of the 'Rumba Del Sud' EP earlier this year, while Plecta makes his debut following projects for Akbal Music, Melody of the Soul, Songuara, Tale & Tone and The Soundgarden. As occasional studio partners of late, the duo continue to build on their creative synergy with a gorgeous take on 'Midway'. Ilias and Plecta take straight aim at the dance floor with a beefed up, swing heavy groove which works amazingly well, and while the main themes of the original are present, they work in a more groove-centric context, keeping the full seven-minute journey both danceable and emotive to round out the release on a strong note. Highly recommended.
