Kindrid Souls – Activate [Stellar Fountain]

Stellar Fountain continues a strong summer season by welcoming Kindrid Souls to the label for their debut single. Hailing from Chicago and Los Angeles, the Kindrid Souls duo is a relatively new act on the organic house landscape. First emerging in 2021 with a string of compilation appearances across the next two years, it was a spot on 3rd Avenue's popular 'We Are The Future' series which set the course for their first official EP via Stellar Fountain's Black division, a release which would prelude a contribution to Hoomidaas' 'Hoom Side of the Sun' earlier this year. Now, following an EP project for Jelly For The Babies' RYNTH, Kindred Souls makes the jump to Stellar Fountain's primary imprint with 'Activate', alongside remixes from Nicolas Giordano and Brian David.

The original mix is an apt barometer of where Kindrid Souls headspace is at, as the duo let's quirky motifs and sparking effects descend over punchy beats and clattering percussion. With a first act that cruises nicely, it's the main break which proves most unique, with sci-fi vocal samples marrying a series of carnival inspired chord stabs and spiralling arps for a finale that is equal parts groovy and exotic.

Returning to the label for the first remix is Nicolas Giordano who makes his third Stellar Fountain appearance following releases for 3rd Avenue and Soundteller Records. The Argentinean artist takes inspiration from the original and aims squarely at the dance floor with a mix that finds a nice balance between progressive and organic house. The tough punchy nature is well maintained, but a dreamier top end and rich atmospheric break make this ideal for the midset or morning hours.

The release concludes with Brian David returning to the label for the second and final interpretation of 'Activate'. The Buenos Aires resident comes off strong releases for Cigarette Music (which was supported by Laurent Garnier), LAIKA Sounds and RYNTH with another creative rework here. A well manicured organic framework immediately stands out, providing the perfect backbone for sweeping effects, soulful strums and deconstructed vocals to carry this gorgeous seven minute journey, one which rounds out the release quite nicely. Highly recommended.
