Releases UMEK, Matteo Vitanza – Trouble So Hard [1605] By Will James Posted on 18th August 2023 5 min read 0 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin UMEK is back on his record label 1605 with a collaborative peak time techno single that samples the same vocals used in Moby’s iconic track “Natural Blues.” Based in Slovenia, UMEK is one of the world’s most influential techno artists, and 2023 marks his third decade in the music industry. During his fruitful career he has played headline DJ sets across the globe and released music on respected record labels ranging from Reinier Zonneveld’s Filth on Acid to Adam Beyer’s Drumcode. Matteo Vitanza is a talented young producer from Rome in Italy, and he is making his 1605 debut working alongside the imprint’s head honcho UMEK. Still early in his career, Matteo Vitanza has previously released music via other labels such as the Cosmic Boys’ Legend, Spartaque’s Codex and Spektre’s Respekt. Along with his explosive solo productions, he has also collaborated with other respected artists such as Dok & Martin. “Trouble So Hard” is the single track on this release, and sampling the lyrics of the 1937 classic “Trouble So Hard” by American blues artist Vera Hall. The track pays homage to Moby’s Natural Blues, as the lyrics are now synonymous with his house music release from 2000. Moby might have been the person who first applied Vera Hall’s voice to modern electronic music, but UMEK and Matteo Vitanza take things to the next level with their hard-hitting techno stomper. Its pulsating bassline and punchy kick drum are overlayered with thrashing hi-hats and crunching claps that are shrouded in dark atmosphere. Building in tension as it approaches the uplifting breakdown section focused on Vera Hall’s vocals, the track lifts up a gear when the percussion hits back in alongside a flickering acid synth line.
