Redspace – Life Form [Bow & Arrow]

Returning from a two-year hiatus, Radieux's Bow and Arrow imprint welcomes Redspace to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Russia, Redspace first emerged in 2020 with a series of self-released projects. Immediately recognized for his club-friendly sound, the fast-rising phenom would go on to land releases via Area Verde, Freegrant Music and more across the next two calendar years, while in turn earning the praise of Ferry Corsten, John Digweed and Paul Van Dyk. 2023 has seen Redspace operate at his most prolific frequency to date, with projects for Eat My Hat Music and Univack highlighting a strong start to the year. Now, adding Bow and Arrow to his resume, Redspace debuts on the label with a two-track showcase entitled 'Life Form'.

Aimed at the more astute dance floors out there, EP opener 'Life Form' finds Redspace composing with a strong sense of scope. The Russian artist masterfully marries swing-heavy rhythms and exotic percussive arrangements with punchy breakbeats and rolling grooves. An array of hazy harmonics, wispy effects and melodic fragments steal the air across the first act, adding texture and depth leading into the main break. Opening up into a glowing reservoir of melody, the interlude elevates mood, as panoramic chord stabs and emotive phrasing set the course for a goosebump worthy finale.

The companion piece 'Transformation' lands with a more straightforward dance floor approach. Enticing from the start, its tight machine-gun groove excites with a vibrant energetic pulse. Creamy melodies, robotized vocals and driving percussion steal the air across the first act, as wobbly chord changes capsize the room rocking groove leading into the break. Emotion peaks as the interlude unfolds, with the main motifs taking centrestage, creating a colourful canopy of sound, before eventually getting washed away in a rush of beats for a heads down finale. It rounds out a strong Bow and Arrow debut Redspace, an artist who continues to emerge and excite as he finds a nice balance between progressive and melodic house. Highly recommended.
