Jadon Fonka – Yuhunda [Soundteller Records]

Deersky's Soundteller records opens the month of April by welcoming Jadon Fonka to the label for his debut EP. Sri Lankan artist Anupa Fonseka aka Jadon Fonka released his first project in 2017 and over the course of the last six years has followed a seldom travelled path. Rather than focus on one distinctive style, Jadon has released EDM, Electro House, House, Progressive House and more. A release on Hardwell's Revealed Recordings in 2019 has been a discography highlight, earning the support of EDM tastemakers such as Timmy Trumpet, Mike Williams, Lumberjack and many more. Now turning his hand back to traditional progressive house, Jadon makes his Soundteller debut with a two-track showcase entitled 'Yuhunda'.

Beginning with the title selection ‘Yuhunda’, Jadon conveys a strong progressive sound. Led by a tough chunky groove, its dance floor sensibility is high from the outset, as arps flicker, percussion clatters and mind-binding effects sweep across the stereo field. Prophetic atmospheres descend over the pulsating groove leading into the break, bringing with them tension filled effects, soulful motifs and fragmented vocals, the latter of which ultimately spearheads a goosebump worthy build and powerful finale.

The release concludes with the peak time vibes of ‘Navaja’. With an equal focus on the dance floor, Jadon assembles a wildly effective framework, complete with hip-swinging rhythms, timely percussive flurries and a uniquely shaped, room rocking groove. Jadon's EDM past has served him well with a wide assortment of colourful sonics painting an electric narrative leading into the break. Much like it's predecessor we get a slight vocal lean across the interlude, tucked away gently below the surface to add texture, depth and emotion, before transferring energy into a thunderous conclusion. It rounds out two powerful tracks from Jadon Fonka, an artist who continues to excite as he emerges from Sri Lanka’s ever growing electronic landscape. Highly recommended.
