Julian Millan & Santiago Pava – Medusas [Port 81 Records]

Returning from a near two-year hiatus Port 81 Records welcomes Julian Millan & Santiago Pava to the label with 'Medusas'. Based in Colombia, Julian Millan lays claim to an impressive resume with releases via Stereo Productions, Circus Recordings, Monday Social and Serranos Kitchen, while world renowned DJs such as Chus & Ceballos, DOSEM, Guy J, Hot Since 82 and Oxia have championed his music. Now adding Port 81 to his resume, Julian collaborates with newcomer and fellow countryman Santiago Pava on a three track showcase entitled 'Medusas'.

Seductive and rhythmic in equal measure, it is the main mix of Medusas which leads the release off. Smooth chord stabs immediately stand out, bringing a sleek cadence and timeless vibe to the duo's driving beats and lively percussive arrangements. Clearly constructed with the dance floor in mind, it's rising modulation provides drama throughout, while a moderately tense break perfectly sets up a buzzing finale. The Dub Version operates on a similar hypnotic plane but with those driving chord stabs playing a larger role, opening up to meditative effects which make for a stellar seven-minute jaunt.

The companion piece 'The Purpose' follows and plays tribute to a classic vocal sample from Chantal in fine fashion. Equally engaging, it's nostalgic flair goes further than just the classic house vocal sample however, with old school acid lines and a hip-swinging groove making it perfect for techno, house and tech-house DJs alike.
