Releases Forty Cats x Mango x Meeting Molly – Symbols / Lagom [Juicebox Music] By Release Promo Posted on 3rd October 2021 7 min read 0 1 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Reddit Share on Linkedin Juicebox Music opens the month of October by welcoming Forty Cats to the label for her debut EP. With well over a decade's worth of DJ experience, Russian artist Christina Gavrilova aka Forty Cats has been a fixture of her country's nightlife, sharing the stage with Jody Wisternoff, Nick Warren, Yotto, Dave Seaman and more. Christina's production debut landed three years ago via 8bit Music and in relatively short order the Russian artist has gone on to land projects via Lane 8's This Never Happened, Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music, Manual Music and Mango Alley. Now adding Juicebox Music to her resume, Forty Cats collaborates with fellow countryman Mango and Meeting Molly on the double a-side offering entitled 'Symbols / Lagom'. Russian artist Alexey Golovanov aka Mango has been a fixture of the electronic music underground for the better part of two decades. Whether it be through his releases courtesy of Anjunadeep and Proton Music, or his thirteen year run as the director of Mango Alley, Mango has firmly etched his place in the history of progressive music. Now paired with Forty Cats for their first time the duo deliver the enchanting 'Symbols' which opens the release. The track's deeper undertone is balanced beautifully with neatly manicured percussion which drives nicely alongside side haunting refrains and elastic-like effects. Kaleidoscopic arps add further depth, nicely placed in the mix to add character without being overwhelming, while piano-like motifs and buzzing stabs seal it's brilliance coming out of the break. Rounding out this trio of Russian producers is Meeting Molly who also makes his Juicebox Music debut here. Following initial outings on Amsterdam based powerhouse Songspire in 2019, Meeting Molly has compiled a meticulous resume, with notable projects coming courtesy of Kiksuya Records, Mango Alley, Monstercat and Soundteller Records. With a sound that is deep, organic and musical, he now pairs with Forty Cats for the mesmerizing 'Lagom'. Sleek and driving from the outset, a shape-shifting groove anchors a colourful array of effects and atmospheres as vibrant percussion drives the narrative forward. For as trippy as it feels across the first act, it's a piano led motif which sits at the heart of the journey. First appearing during a short but timely break and lying gently under the surface as the framework reconvenes for a thrilling finale. A gorgeous production from the duo which puts a resounding stamp on Forty Cats Juicebox Music debut, an artist who continues to rise at an accelerated rate as 2021 reaches its fourth quarter.
